fisher 1266 repair question

my 1266 has a bad off /on / volume switch... turning it on and sometimes it works but most times it has to be at the very lowest volume setting for it to work. i ordered a new switch from first texas today and wanted to know if anyone has ever replaced one before and how much trouble it is. i didn't want to send the detector off to be repaired if possible and spend 80 to 100 dollars to replace a 5 dollar part. i have a friend that can probably install the part if i can't do it. any help would be greatly appreciated....thanks.........roger.

my fisher 1266 is up and running strong as ever again! the new off / on / volume switch was pretty easy to replace.... maybe 30 minute job from start to finish. if anyone has the same problem with a bad switch, don't be afraid to change it yourself. the new part was about 6.00 with shipping from first texas.............roger

Just spray the pot thru all it's openings with electronic contact cleaner and turn the pot back and forth several times and let the contact cleaner evaporate.
By the way take the batteries out first before doing any spraying
