fisher 1260x help

i have a 1260x that i think the coil is bad i turn it on and it beeps for 3 seconds and then no response from the coil or the detector unless i turn the sen up and then its a constant beep with know change waving metal under the coil also would it hurt to run with 9volts instead of doubleas can anyone help
