Fisher 1236 X2 ???

Hi folks this is my 1st. post on this Fisher forum and I will try to keep it as short & simple as possible.I have been a Tesoro man for awhile and wanted to try a TID detector. So I just bought a Minelab Xterra 30 and either it is defective or just don't work in my area (upstate N.Y.)but all the other brand factory set ground balanced detectors worked well. The bind I am in now is - my Xterra 30 is on it's way back to the dealer to have him ckeck it out. If it is defective I am either going to try another one or get a Garrett Ace250 (had one once & not a bad machine) or I have been reviewing the Fisher 1236 X2 and sounds pretty impressive. What would you folks do? I really did want to get a detector with the TID (meter read out) but have always had good luck with my Tesoro's without one. Decisions.decisions... Thanks! Steve.

I would take that advise under serious consideration! It sounds like a Killer machine for the price and you can be our "guinea pig" to!

HH, Tom[/quote] I just got a Minelab Xterra 30 and it didn't work out for so my dealer took it back and I was looking at getting the 1236 X2 but as of now I am really considering getting one. About 99.9% sure of it. Just wished I could try both the 1236 X2 & the F4 out first but have no dealers where I am. So a guinea pig I think I will be. Steve (upstate New York).

I will say that the Xterra I had didn't do the job for me either but I wouldn't call it horrible - I would rather think that is wasn't right for my area. I don't consider any brand or model junk because what works for me might not work for you and vice versa. The Ace 250 is alittle noisey but that is because it is so sensitive, a pretty good machine for the money. The 1236 is not a good machine as you say, it is a "great" machine. If you use the 1236 and learn it, it will find you anything you want. My guess is that maybe where you hunt you might need a detector with a manual ground balance, since all the detectors you mentioned are a factory set ground balance. If you had the Xterra 50 or 70 it is ground balance adjustable, the Xterra is factory set. You are right about the Tesoro it is a very good mahine, I never had a Tesoro that wasn't good. Right now I am using the Fisher F4 and am more than pleased with it. Steve...
