Fisher 1236-x2 good for Jewelry+Coins?

Was wondering how the Fisher 1236-x2 does finding Jewelry and coins in trashy areas, like on freshwater beach, and parks. Is it possible to tell the difference between pull tabs and jewelry? I have heard with these units u can't tell the difference, so you have to dig pull tabs and caps because they have similar metal make up as jewelry. I dont like digging a lot of trash...

A very repeatable target ID reading may have you not dig some very good jewelry thinking it was tab or foil. Jewelry varies all over the place with target ID. So far I have dug my best jewelry finds with my beep and dig detectors and not my target ID detectors.

In a word - YES. I just spent 3 days hunting with one and did just fine. Many coins and a silver ring came my way. Honestly, these are the things the 1236 was made for.

The 1236-X2 is very good at separating targets, and has a lightining fast response. This means most targets hit cleanly in between the trash items (with the 8" coil). You can also swing it just about as fast as you want, as long as you dont get carried away - there is no need to poke the coil. In fact, a little speed will get you stronger and deeper hits.

With a little practice and some dabs of paint, you can soon tell when a target is in the pulltab range, too. The 1236-X2 will not tell you if the target IS a pulltab, however. No detector will. There are a few that come close, but the 1236 aint one of them. The best way to use it is to set it on IRON preset, turn the SENS up to 8 or above and just go to sweeping.

It is a deep seeker, has that good separation I mentioned and is a good iron eliminator. So it would do great on a freshie beach. Listen to tvr and get over your trash compulsion, at least on the beach. Oh, you will still find tabs and foil there, but the odds go up there for finding jewlery, too. When you take our advice and find just one nice ring (because you scoop everything above iron) you'll thank us, and probably stop complaining about trash..

I owned the FISHER 1236-x2. It is very, very good for coin-hunting, especially on trashy sites where other MDs get blind. But jewelry,,, Well, 1236 lacks detailed discrimination segments (it has only 10 segments) as well as notch. You will be able to find jewelry but YOU WILL DIG A LOT.
