Fisher 11" DD on a Discovery 3300

I have read time and time again that the 11" DD coil from a Fisher F2/F4 will work on the Discovery 3300.
Has anyone ever tried this, and does it work??? Are ID and depth readings still accurate?
$150 seams like a lot of money to spend if it does not work...

Thanks,

Hi,

I don't have any personal experience with the 3300 but it does work with both the Fast Tracker and Tracker IV. I love the 11" DD coil and use it virtually 100% of the time. I would think that it should work with the 3300. Before buying the coil I would do one of two things (or both). I would contact First Texas through their Bounty Hunter web site and ask them. They have answered every question that I have asked, although it takes 1-2 weeks to get an answer. The other thing I would do is PM the author of this thread. It looks as though he has actual experience with both the Discovery 3300 and the 11" DD coil on it.

According to that post, the 11" DD works...Now I need to weigh the cost versus use of this coil...

Just curious GGG, what are you hoping to improve on by using the 11"DD....

On the 3300 the last time I went wet sand hunting, I zapped out the false signal (motion mode). Usually the first segment. I was going to get the DD but life happens. I haven't used a DD so my comment it this is it's the standard coil for allot of fisher and teknetics mid to high end models.

Good luck

To answer the question, yes the DD 11" coil will work on the Discovery 3300 but only the Fisher F-4 will work. Now about the performance, I have used the stock coil for 2 years and the only real complain that I have is Target separation. I have been using the Fisher F-4 11" DD coil for about 1 year and I can tell you that it gets amazing target separation and the VDI numbers are only off by 1-2 numbers and that's it. Now about the big question does it go deeper and the answer is yes, however I've only noticed about a 2 inch increase but to me depth isn't everything, in fact most old coins I find are from around 2-6 inches deep and even with my stock 8" coil I can find a quarter at 8" deep. So what is the huge difference in the stock coil and the 11" DD coil, well that's definitely the target separation which is a huge advantage over the 8" stock coil and with a tab bit depth. As far as the recovery speed no search coil will help with that on the 3300 and if you swing slow and low and overlap your swing your going to get great results. One final note, I have noticed that with the 11" DD coil that sometimes a bottle cap showed up as a quarter but that's just a very small price to pay for excellent target separation. Hope this helps.

The F2 and the F4 coils are interchangeable, or to say if something will use the F4 coil, then it would also use the F2 coils. Those two machines are on the same format, all the other models are different.

Hi,
I've got a Legacy 3500 which is the model that replaced the 3300. I've got the 11" DD coil. I bought it originally for my Pioneer 505 and when I got my 3500 I tried it on the Legacy just to see how it performs. After testing this coil on both machines I can honestly say that it's worth every cent I paid for it. Not only does it detect coins deeper, but it penetrates highly minerized ground good. I live in Washington state near the Canadian border and the ground is highly mineralized here. I found that with the DD coil I don't get as much false or ghost signals and I can crank up the sensitivity a little higher. I've played with the sensitivity settings and found that you can go with lower sensitivity and still go deep with this coil. I usually turn the sensitivity down to 12 o'clock and get great results.I even tried it with the sensitivty as low as 9 o'clock and got good results with it. I find when I use it on either detector that I get a good 2" deeper over what the 8" coil gets. HH
