First wheaties with AT

Have access to an old piece of farm property back home that has a log cabin on it. Went out there once before a few years ago, but it was the wrong season and the underbrush was too daunting... well, along with the poison ivy and bugs. Recently went back home for the holidays and the underbrush was down for the winter. No one seems to know how old the cabin is and it seems to have been "modernized" at some point with iron nails . Lots of iron trash around it; apparently the people did not have a whole lot either because we mostly found only modern trash left by hunters and farm hands. We made it a family afternoon outing with the brother-in-law and nephew. B-I-L hunted a little with my Infinium but the nephew just wanted to dig. BIL eventually decided he was OK watching/digging too, but we had a lot of fun. Father in law was there too which helped on identifying some of the "artifacts" we dug up; there wasn't too much he didn't have at least an idea what it was...

The big find occurred late in the afternoon not too long before everyone got tired. Found two wheaties, 44 and 45, in the same hole about fifty yards from the cabin. Father in law said that was usually the car parking spot near the cabin and the barn. The most interesting finds were an ash dump door from an old wood stove and the brass mechanism from an old wind up clock.

Oh, and the heart thumper moment occurred when my BIL located a good signal on the building side of the old steps that lead up to a detached kitchen that burned down many years ago; no "safe" though, just another piece of the tin roof... :)

Good job on finding your first wheaties. Those other finds seem to be worthwhile too. Those artifacts tell a little about the location's history and what went on there. Interesting indeed. Hope you find some more great stuff. GL and HH.

A lot of the old home hunts I have been hearing of they find the good stuff under the floor or around trees. Seems things feel through the floor boards and they hung out around the trees to keep cool.
