First Week with the GT

I had the pleasure of spending last week at a beach in Florida and becoming familiar with the GT. All I can say is WOW! The detector is simply a joy to operate. I stuck with a simple technique: All Metal, Disc, Pin Point, Manual Sensitivity (max) Although I did find a fair amount of trash, the beach was relatively clean. Ninety-eight percent of my finds were in the sand at low tide. I did take it out in the water with the control box wrapped in a garbage bag and encased in the pouch. Probably wasn't the smartest thing to do. I did wish I had the Excal then. The machine ran steadily throughout the hunts with several targets at or near 12" I recovered four rings, two are costume jewelry. Of the remaining, one is a silver men's band and the other is 14k with 17 diamonds. Needless to say, I was speechless when I found it. I introduced my cousin to metal detecting. He had a blast using my Safari. He found the Australian two-dollar coin the first night out.

you are right the detector is a joy to use i totaly agree i feel so confidant with it in the field, I am suprized you operate with such high sensitivity you may want to try just above the C in cancel and see if you do not get even cleare signals you are doing good

Yep, watch running the sens too high. Often pointing it to the "C" in noise cancel on the face plate provides the best depth for me. Best way to set it though is to stick a dime in the sand about 7 or 8" deep and then adjust sens for best signal, which often is less than what max stable is. For sure if you aren't hearing a constant threshold then your sens is too high...or you are swinging too fast.

The only time I noticed any hint of falsing was in the water with the waves so I did back it down some. It didn't seem to eliminate it though. I tried silent search for a bit but would still hear some falsing with the waves. I found that a bit strange. My Safari tended to be more steady in the water but I could not get over the GT's ability to find targets. By that I mean how it was so easy to hear the smallest change in the threshold as I came close to a target. I never really listened for that change before but I think I am beginning to understand one of the important techniques that will take my detecting to a new level.

That's a great first week - and a super ring.........:clapping:

And the more you use the machine the more fun it gets..........

Cool to see one of our 'goldies' popping up in Florida :)

So.... which C do I point the sensitivity? There are two 'C's in "CanCel"

Cheers
Snoop.

wow! Thats some awesome finds. Seems that you have learned your new detector quicker than I did mine. Last few days only turned up a buffalo and a tiny pair of silver shoes, of course some modern quarters and such

Nice finds and super nice diamond ring! - Jim

Joe, you are still the man! Went over to Waycross last night and did some hunting. Didn't find much other than a copper door knob and a hotwheel.
