First Water Hunt ATG Strikes Gold

Atlas

New member
Got into the shallow water with the ATG yesterday and things got off to a fast start. After an auto ground balance (running ~83) I got my first target in the ankle biter water with a nickel. Lots of iron trash and mineralization giving a lot of chatter. Ten feet away another borderline iffy signal but registering a ~50 so I dug. It was a thin 14K gold ring in the first scoop so not to deep. I latter checked this at home in an air test and it reads a solid 48 vdi. Kept hunting and only other good targets were a zinc, bullet and funky piece of body piercing? jewelry (no mark).

This hunt was a little unusual for this location in that the coin count was low. I usually hit 30 coins in a 2 hour hunt when I've hunted with the excal. I was also a little concerned bout the chatter I was getting. I know there is iron as nails and screw caps so maybe the ATG is hitting on this and rejecting it. I didn't dig any iron and was using iron audio to check targets. However, in my air testing on screw caps with iron audio on and hearing the low-high-low response I was thinking a similar response could be heard from a good target among iron trash?

Just wondering what others are using for sensitivity settings on the ATG. Black Davy says turn it down a few notches to reduce chatter and I may try that today. I think the ground is pretty hot in the 80's and there is visible black sand.

Well all in all I'm pretty pleased with the ATG this water hunt was my second hunt with the machine and it hit GOLD! Confucius say -- "the gold is in the water my son".

Nice haul, fresh or salt water?

In the salt water here I usually ground balance at 0 to10. I usually back off two bars on sens and it runs pretty quiet.

Very nice especially for the second hunt.

I need to get my AT Gold in the water someplace.

I'm still learning my machine and I like it.
Pinpointing is a cinch with it.

I'm no expert here, but I read if the ground is hot it might help to turn down the sensitivity and be sure to keep it ground balanced. I've also read to keep the sensitivity as high as possible when nugget hunting. If it's very trashy it might save your nerves to lower it a bit. Whatever you are doing, if it ain't broke don't fix it! Very nice!
