First two trips out with the excal - and a question!

Starting to get used to the new detector - it's my first water detector.

The first two pics show my trash, and goodies from the first lake beach/swimming area. I didn't get into the water more than 6 inches deep here - its like a mucky mud - slippery and insane to dig in. All 3 gold items are 14k. The bracelet is rose/white/yellow gold. And all 3 were found at the waters edge (just out of the water). The lake is obviously down quite a bit - as the first 8 feet of beach (wet sand) are covered with algae.

The second two pics show my goodies and trash (my o my the pulltabs) from the second swimming beach i tried. I started off the day at the first lake which is where i found the silver ring, and all the clad but one quarter. I dumped my trash into a can after the first lake - all the fishing lead got old to tote around. The trash shown in the last picture is all from the second lake. This place had pulltabs everywhere. At first I thought my machine was wigging out on me, but its actually just that thick with pulltabs. I would often pull up 2 or 3 pulltabs in a single scoop in the water. I did most of my digging here in 1-2 feet of water - getting used to the scoop/etc. This place had real sand - so it was alot easier digging with the scoop than the first lake. The silver necklace (seems to be about 24" or so - made in italy) came from here, as did a quarter. Everything else was trash. I must say, it sure did look nice hanging out of the scoop.

By the end of my time at the second beach i was getting alot better at recovering my targets (albeit they were pulltabs). So I am definitely making progress.

The question I had was - what do you guys do at a beach like this. It obviously hasn't been hunted from what I can tell (because of all the pulltabs). Do you just hammer through it? Or do you find another location?

Thanks!

When I find them like that I clean out the most popular part where everyone is at. Dig it all. Just do a small part of it at a time and take a break eveyonce in a while. When you get a nice area cleaned out when you go back hit that artea fist to see if there is any fresh drops. If nothing, pick a area beside the cleaned out spot and dig it all. Two thing happen. 1. You will learn your detector inside and out. 2. you will have a nice spot to start off with then work on the rest of the trash clean up and you will learn your detector even better. You got a few nice find already. I love places like that to hunt. The more the trash the better I like it cause I know that no one else has hunted there. One other thing keep your mouth shut and don't tell anybody about it till you get it hunted out and then keep your mouth shut. I am a water hunter and have probley water hunted for 20 years and have already had every ring stolen from me once. That happened a long time ago and won't ever happen again. The old saying Loose Lips Sink ships is true. Be nice but don't tell anybody your business. Get my Drift. Later and HH Jerry aka Tinfoil.

Thanks for the reply. This was just what I wanted to hear!

It's nice to get an assurance that you are not completely crazy in your thinking - thanks for giving me that =).

I get that many pt's everytime I hunt the river! Usually 10 to 15 pairs of sunglasses and everything else. You got it made, dig it up, go for the gold! Like the man said, keep it to yourself. Only a matter of time before that nice one comes up! Richard WNC

Good to hear. This is my first time doing this - so its nice to get some confirmation on what I'm doing.

Thanks!

Glad to see you're picking up broken glass. I do that, too, whenever I see it. Congrats on finding an unhunted swim area. That's really exciting!
