First two days out with the F-75, pt.1:detecting:

Hunted about 3 hours Saturday at an old school/football field that has been BEAT TO DEATH. PERIOD. The ground was so hard I wondered if the National Guard next door had been holding Bradley races on it. [Several years ago I dug up a M-2 heavy barrel for a .50 Browning machine gun someone dropped over the fence.] Ran sens at 90, notch at 1, disc at 8, tones at 4, and switched back and forth between DE & PF-some people have said PF was more sensitive so I wanted to try it out. Used fast grab, and as usual, the FeO bar graph remained blank [we have low mineral/no mineral.] I could not believe the quarters and dimes people have missed and they were around 5 to 7 inches. That DD really works-hope they make a REAL BIG ONE LATER. I had over 120 coins, some copper fittings, copper/aluminum wire, bullets, brass, and a few tabs. Of note my "latest model" reads nickels at 31-32, while Tinfoil's reads them at 28-29. Was there a change to the chip? On the way walking home after dark crossed a small parking lot of rocks and seashells that was loaded with trash, so I switched to delta pitch and found 3 dimes and 2 quarters at 1" or less. Hit a particular place on an island between the lanes where I've found goodies before, and within a few sweeps had a good/bad signal that indicated half and something scratchy that jumped around and would break up depending on direction.
First thing out of the 6" hole was a 2" iron washer; I rechecked the hole to get a nice clear .50 cents reading. I pulled it out and it was a darn Mardi Gras Doubloon. I would have stayed there and hunted longer, but the last time I did, 6 different women stopped to ask if I need help. Cajun women-Bill Ladd where were you when I needed you?:help:
All in all a good day-lots of wheats but the only silver was a war-nickel-deepest coin was about 9" with LOTS of audio.
AndI did manage to "indulge" in 2 Montecristo no. 2's:bouncy: [The offers still open Mr Bill;)]

I'm thinking the "PF" is less sensitive based on what it's intended for - plowed fields with disturbed soil and an uneven surface. That would give you more lattitde for changes in ground balance. Might allow you to hunt deeper in a plowed field but less so elsewhere.

A long night with not much sleep-decided to go cash in all my found money at a local casino so had about 4 hours sleep. But walked out $25 ahead. Had to do some scraping and painting so it was a late start, and I was beat plus I pulled a muscle in my back from all the digging the day before.[So had two cups of dark roast coffee with chicory, an adderall, 1000mg of vicodin, a soma, and 3 alleve then hit the road walking for 2 miles to the site.]
I hit a parking area with shell dirt and rocks first. It took me 45 minutes to chisel through using the pick attachment on my E-tool, and the targets were 4 to 5 inches down; all 5 were wheat cents, but the ground matrix had bumped them up to the dime area. As the sun was low I headed back to the football field. More of the same, coins galore, especially quarters and dimes at 5 to 6 inches down, and plenty of pennies including wheats. I got a couple of unusual signals; they read high coin, but when I went to pinpoint the detector nulled out so they were hot rocks or iron that had gone to mineral. By this time it was dark so I headed on back. When I got to my turn off street I decided to just wander onto the next island up and got lots of promising signals. But I did not stay to dig any because of the traffic noise
and these WILD CAJUN WOMEN!
And I got to burn 2 Red Dot Cohibas-EXQUISITE! while hunting.
A shot of Lidocaine would have been NICE in the elbow, not that the F-75 is heavy, my elbow is just GONE.
Today Monday it rained-the F-75 is waterproof but I'm not, so I rested up.

:clapping:Sounds like your making friends with the F75..nice finds..

Like a lot of others when a new machine is released I trawl the net looking for info, all the different opinions help give us some idea of the advantages and pitfalls of a new release.
If I have any doubts in my mind about a theory put forward on a detecting forum or site, then I take the machine out and try and duplicate what

Are you air testing the "PF" mode? Kind of negates the topsey turvey soil conditions of a plowed field to replace them with air. I'm not a big subscriber to air tests in any case. I've never even seen a Flying Eagle cent airborne, and that and the St. Gaudens $20 gold are the only coins depecting flight I am aware of.

I figure the test garden in my yard simulates a "plowed field" fairly well. Up to 20 years ago that's what it was, and with me disturbing it recently to bury stuff also fits. Anyway, on the 12" deep quarters (silver & clad) and musket ball I hit more consistantly in all weather conditions in dE (default) mode than in "PF" (plowed field). "JE" is dynamically unstable in my yard (between the house & utility lines) and is near useless, though it works fine in the town park I frequent.

I'll have to do more "PF" testing. There is a local field beside a river that had been a canal in the 1800's that I want to scour this spring.

I have read the post on rogersrelicsuk.com ..He has tested and retested and likes the F75 better than the minlab se and the T2 from his post..But as he stated the soil in the UK is different than the US..I seem to like the JE mode with low sense the targets just seem to Jump out at you..But cant be run in all situations..I toggle back and forth between DE,JE,PF most of the time depends on the hunt..But I am new and learning the F75 it just keeps getting better and better with every hunt..I am starting to notice the tones and what the machine is telling me and most of the time it is to dig..I will for sure give the PF mode a little more time ..I think it kinda gets over looked..From what nasa tom has said a good GB will give the best depth results in bad soils..I want to get as deep as possible for the older relics..thanks for the info..james

The F75 just keeps going, like the pink bunny :detecting:

Any day you can smoke a Montecristo #2 is a good day, got quite a few of those napping myself

Would love to test the F75 out for a weekend.
