First trip with the X-Terra 70 and..................

I love this detector:clapping: I have had several detectors over the last 28 years so I am not new to detecting. I had read the manual about twenty times so I could have an understanding of the detectors abilities before I took it out for the first time and that was a big help. This detector is fun to use and is almost a "turn on and go" detector. Only thing really needed is to turn it on and set gb and detect. Of course, I live in a part of the country that is very new and by that I mean the towns down here(70 miles west of Brownsville, Texas) were mostly established after 1900 and this whole part of the state was in large Spanish land grants,so finding old coins is not what I look forward to. I hunt mostly clad and hope to find some silver every once in a while:super:. Anyway, I turned on the 70 and made what adjustments I thought necessary and started hunting. It didn't take long to understand the tones I was getting and the numbers are right on with some of the charts posted here. By 11:00AM, and several adjustmenst I had decided that this is going to be my main detector and I will have a couple for sale! I played with almost every setting this detector had and was able to understand and use what features I needed to get it to work for me in the area I was hunting. If someone has trouble with setting up this detector, then they either didn't read the manual or do not know how to use a metal detector. Everything works just like it is supposed to. I ended up with 14 quarters, 22 dimes, 4 nickels and 37 pennies(no zinkers:rant:). This from a field that 24 quarters and a bunch of other coins were found in just last weekend. I consider this a very good 1st hunt with a fine detector:minelab:.

where the kids like to play on the equipment. I have found several nice rings in these areas that mom's no doubt lost playing with their children. I haven't been down to Brownsville in a while. Used to live down there as a kid, still have lots of relatives down there, I do get down to Kingsville, mom lives there. I live in Angleton, just south of Houston. Good luck with your hunting, sure wish Minelab would come out with the small round coil. John

Oh yeah! We do hit the playgrounds:cheers:We call them 'woosie' hunting because they are so easy to hunt! We also hit lots that older houses have been torn down or moved out.:thumbup:With about 60% of the schools down here being totally fenced in and no way to gain access to hunt, we have to find places to hunt. We have asked for permission to hunt in several schools and other places and sometimes we get in and sometimes we dont. There are several schools here that have not been hunted in years and we are patiently trying to get permission to hunt by going to the school on Saturday morning and trying to locate the correct person for permission. So far we haven't found that person but the two people I hunt with are teachers and sometimes they can locate the right person and they have the time to do it in so all in all we do gain access at times and have good hunts.
