First trip with GT this morning

Tired Rooster

New member
I finally took the new GT out this morning. I went to an old school yard that has been beat really hard over the years, but good place to try it out because it's not super trashy. I set it with notch and disc. at furthest point counter clock wise. Set threshold, ran it in silent search and threshold to see how each worked out. Used iron mask on and off at different times. used auto sensitivity and set sens. manually a little later. It is a different kinda machine but I really like it. It's not at all difficult to use. Thats not to say I don't have much to learn, but I will definitely get the hang of it I think. As for the finds.....one lone wheat penny:lol:! And about 15 pull tabs. Glad to get the wheaty though. I used it without a meter today to just get a bit of a feel for the tones alone. I have a Ron's 180 meter that I will put on and use the next time. Anyway......I think this GT is a great machine and am looking forward to gaining experience and confidence with it.

WTG on the wheat penny Rooster, you did extreme good for a first time Sovereign user.

It takes about a year to really learn the Sovereign, for land use that is and for wet sand & surf not as long.

Keep us posted with your finds, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Allot of good folks here on the forum ready to help out.

Take care,
Paul (Ca)

you may want to experiment with the sensitivity to see how much you can use in your soil , bury a dime at 6" and 8" and adjust the sens leveal untill you get the cleanest signal and make not of that try auto as well , somtimes less sens can get you more depth , and try the threshold buzz a bit louder or softer on those buried targets, and sweep speed slow fast and wiggle in super trash Iron turn down the sence and swing slower.

GunnarMN,

It's things like you just said that I need to know more of. I don't have a Sovereign yet, but am working on that... I'm hungry for info, and I'm soaking it in on this site, but it's folks like you that make places like this, worth wanting to explore more, try more new things, and field test.

Thanks,

What I have learned with the Sovereign series of Minelab detectors

The Sovereigns are a different type of detectors and not like anything most have ever used. These do take some time to get used to and the biggest tip I can give it DON

Rick,

Thanks very much - I printed a copy of this to be able to go through it several times as I learn more. I look forward to using one of these soon.

That was very informative and helpful. Thanks alot for taking the time. There is a ton of experience here on the Sovereign.

TiredRooster, found a Sov GT that I will be getting; It's on hold for me until I can pull the cash together. In the meantime, I will have a used Excal being sent to me.... so, anticipation, excitement, sheer joy :clapping: yes, kid in a candy store for me now. But I look forward to seeing your posts about experiences with your GT. And yes, there is a ton of experience here, and a lot of helpful people too.
