Hello,
After a busy holiday season. Finally had a day to get outdoors. Went to a new spot of a friend of my cousins down in Butte county. It is an old ancient river deposit. Didnt get alot today for the first trip there but a start anyway. 5 pcs- .7 dwt
Good luck

or at least it is here at my place in Vale, Oregon. :(

I keep looking for any more recent updates as I have my plans in place to get away to Arizona or California as soon as my Makro Gold Racer arrives to do some Gold Nugget Prospecting and Relic Hunting for a week or two to wring out the Gold Racer and my FORS Gold+. I ran out of evaluation time here last month with my Gold+ due to the arrival of wintry weather. I did manage to squeeze in a little field time with the Gold+ at some Relic Hunting locations, but I need more time afield to finish that evaluation and also put the Makro Gold Racer to the test as well.

I have a 10-Day to 2-Week vacation from the snow all planned and then I can add my experience with both the new Makro and Nokta models. Please keep us updated with your results, and remember to add the coil used as well as mode and settings.

Thanks, and best wishes for more success in this new year.

Hello monte,

I hear you on the bad weather. Down this way near Redding it has been raining all the time. Seems like when there is a clear day on my weekends off, something needs to get done outside or a friend needs help. So last weekend I didnt get out. I have a bunch of new places to go but hope the weather cooperates. I will keep you posted. Last time out I was using the dd 10x5 coil. Next time at same place I will try the 10x 5 concentric. The new plus seems to run quieter in all metal and smooth then previous fors original. The Fors plus is a great detector. I cant wait till the rains let up, so I can show what this thing can do. Take care

and for now that's what I mainly worked with.

Since I Relic Hunt in very iron littered sites the most, I have used the 5" DD more as I started to evaluate the Gold+ after I received it, but shortly after using and comparing the two 5½X10 coils, snow arrived. I planned a two to three week detecting trip to warmer areas a month ago and was just waiting for the Makro Gold Racer to arrive so I could work both it and the FORS Gold+ at some Gold Nugget Prospecting sites, and I am still ready-to-go .... just waiting on the Gold Racer.

That will let me compare both the Gold+ and Gold Racer with similar-size coils in gold producing areas, and I also plan to visit at least two Relic Hunting sites to cross-check them with my FORS CoRe for that application. Although I have used DD coils since 1971 and have had one or two on-hand for a few other models, I have been working the DD coils on both the Nokta and Makro models for a year now, but have been eager to see a Concentric coil as those are what have worked the best for me, all around, for the past 33 years or so.

I was very pleased to have the 5½X10 Concentric for the Gold+, and in the little time I was able to get afield before winter hit, I have preferred the Concentric to the DD coil where I hunted. I wish I had a Concentric coil for the FORS CoRe that was in the 5" housing for the Gold+ as I think it might provide a little advantage for me in the densely littered Relic Hunting sites I favor.

Anyway, once the Makro Gold Racer arrives, I should be on-the-road to warmer, drier places within 48 hours, an I'll be working the Gold+ with the 5½X10 Concentric initially. Since the latter '70s I have had my best success when detecting for gold nuggets with Concentric coils so that will be my initial plan to work an area. Then I'll switch to the same-size Double-D coil and rework the same location for comparison.

And you are correct, the FORS Gold+ is a smooth working detector in the All Metal mode, and still not unpleasant in the Discriminate modes.
