hello, new to the forum but have been reading posts by everyone here for quite a while. never ceases to amaze me what some of you guys find!
i have several years detecting experience under my belt with the fisher 1220, 1260, 1265, and presently own a 1266 detector. i previously owned a tesoro golden saber and really loved the way it performed. well i had the itch for a new machine and read several reviews on all the tesoro detectors and finally settled on a new silver umax. i got my new tesoro
last weekend and of course the weather turned nasty and kept me from taking it out on a hunt. finally got to take it out this saturday. a hunting buddy and i hunted a huge park in a nearby town that has given up several silver coins, plus v nickels and indian head cents. found about 2.00 in modern coins but no old stuff. we drove down to a football field that has produced lots of mercury dimes, a few barber dimes, lots of rosies, and at least 4 silver half dollars. even found 2 shield nickels and a 2 cent piece on the playing field.
i have hunted this field hard for several years with my fishers and never found a gold ring, but my new silver umax produced a mans 10k class ring on my very first target i dug!
the ring is a 1969 class ring and i had to pass over it many times before in my searches. with the fisher machines i had to keep the discrimination up to knock out all the junk, but the tesoro ran so smooth and quiet over the trash i had to check to see if the battery had died on me...lol. i think my 1266 is gonna get traded in for another tesoro real soon too.
my hunting buddy was running a whites detector and i think my little silver umax might have made a believer outta him cause i heard him mention he might just be in the market for
a machine like mine cause the whites felt like he was toting a concrete block around with him all day....lol. my total for about5 hours hunting was about 60 various clad coins and new pennies and the 10k class ring. i was very happy with my new silver umax detector on its maiden coin hunting trip and know there will be lots more coins and rings in its future.........good hunting! joe dirt_1
