First timer strikes it rich.......

This is the first time I've ever used a water detector and I think I've wasted some time in the past. I hit a freshwater beach near where I live with my new to me but used Tesoro Stingray I recently purchased. I've been wanting to try this for awhile and finally took the plunge. Only problem was how cold the temp. was this morn, mid-50's when I left the house at 7:00 a.m. Too cold to stay out very long but I'll be back. One other thing, How do you keep the small stuff from dropping through the scoop? I was thinking of getting some type of small fencing and attaching it to the inside but, what do you guys use?

About the scoop. I don't use anything special just small diameter holes i think 5/8". Penny, dime can't go through....

Now you know why we're so hooked ! If you dont want to spend 5 days removing sand from your digger and have a small item going thru, i suggest a flaoting island made of a rubber tire and a fine mesh basket. You just dump your load on the island and see what you missed. You can attach a cord on your island and let it float around. You just pull it when needed. I personally dont use that but my hunting buddy does. For me, if it's too small for my scoop, it's generally not worth digging 25 times for....

To resolve to goodies falling through, my wife cuts a circle of fine galvanized screen and zipties it into the bottom of the scoop. coastwise uses a plastic coffee can lid the same size as the bottom of the scoop and pokes a few holes in it and this seems to work equally as well. That's the deal, keep us posted. GH

I tie-wrapped some 1/4" hardware cloth into my scoop and it works fine, after about 6 months of use in salt water I have to replace it, but it is cheap enough. kalei

He said the bench mark on the 14k white gold band I found last week was a common one. The mark on that 1st ring is exactly the same as the one on mine :)

Man, that is one nice sweet start  Congrats!
