First time with my new Tejon and the Detech 10x5 WSS

Hello,

I wanted to replace my Deus with a Tesoro. I decided to buy a Tejon with 2 additional coils. Today the package arrived. I wanted to try it out in an area where I hunted already with the Deus and White's Eagle. It might be important - I live in Europe, but pull tabs are the same everywhere ;).

The Detech 10x5 WSS coil is a little bit longer than I "expected", but it is narrow so by changing the direction one can often avoid overlapping with other targets (of course a round 5" coil would be sometimes better, but it is a good compromise). The weight of the Tejon was exact what I expected. It felt very good (not too heavy, just solid). The balance was better than on the Deus (with all the weight at the front).

The Tejon was very loud at home, so I taped the speaker with a layer of rubber and "gorilla" tape. This was a mistake, because the machine was almost too quiet in the field. I have to find a better solution. I wish the speaker was at the front.

The start was a little bit difficult. I read the manual on a park bench, but after few minutes of practice I had no problems with setting the Tejon up.

The "shock" came after the first "beep". Where is the VDI number? ;) What should I do now?! I don't know "what it is", how to decide if I should dig this one out?... I started panicking, but than I used the second discrimination which came handy at this point. I decided to dig everything above foil. Suddenly it became very clear, what it was all about. I dug a target without "knowing" what it might be. It made the whole thing much more exciting! Believe it or not, but after many pull tabs I found a ring! It might be only a "junk ring" but still (it could be gold on another day).

At the end I had a load of fun with my first Tesoro. I am very happy with my decision. The machine was very stable and made no noises. I will try the Detech Ultimate 13" coil tomorrow.

That's a good first day out with the Tejon. Trust me, a good set of headphones like the Killer B's Wasp will vastly improve the performance of the Tejon.

These tips and tricks for the Tejon will also benefit the users of other Tesoros as well. A must read! http://metaldetectings.com/e107_files/public/tesoro_tejon_tips_ii.pdf

you will find rings , and in the UK gold coins I hear the tejan even gets dimes at really good depth , and has me thinking , I may want to sell the VAQ & try a tejan as well .

Thank you guys. I will read the pdf after some more practice. Headphones could be a solution, but unfortunately I don't like wearing them (I feel already disconnected without headphones :D). Maybe I could attach something in front of the speaker that would redirect the "air"/sound to my head.

I wanted to try the other coil today, but the forest turned out to be a dump yard, so it made no sense. I walked with the 10x5 coil on the forest path, but the whole way was already "cleaned out". I noticed many holes on both sides (even on the path). Some of them 15" wide! Imagine it. How stupid does someone have to be, to make such a mess for something (probably) of the size of a coin (and if it were not enough, let the hole open...). I just hoped, no one sees me carrying a detector, because they would probably think, it was me.

Back to Tejon. I was amazed, how quiet this machine is. No interferences at all. As I was crossing a bridge (with loads of metal) the Tejon started making (normal) noises. Than I realized it was still on.

I also noticed the same effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eflNqgSSlyg#t=292
BTW - I wish this guy would still make videos. I liked the other ones very much.

I learned few things about the Tejon yesterday.

1. Bottle caps are sounding different. It sounds like the beginning and the end is chopped off. This would be a huge advantage.
2. The trick "Digger Gear" showed in his video seems to work not only on large pieces of aluminium but also on some screw caps. If there is a pattern, it would be just awesome.
3. The 10x5 coil is unfortunately too long for extreme trashy areas. I had to remove some junk, to get an undisturbed signal from other targets (it is also hard to pinpoint). But under "normal" conditions (only few meters away), 10" are gaining time.
4. I love the second discrimination feature.

After 2 days I can say that the Tejon is fun to use (and I even have not tried the stock and the 13" coil yet). I think, I will buy a Tesoro cap. :D
