First Time Out With Whites 6X10 coil

Coinseeker 78

New member
Got out with the new DD6X10 coil. All I can say is it is a winner. I was able to pin point it very well and it seems to go quite deep. Found a couple dimes at 7 inches. I found 5 dimes,2 Nickels, 1 1972 Canadian Penny and a 1931 P Wheat. Also 9 more clad pennies. Now for the bad news. I found a small silver charm with about a half inch of chain on it. When I got home I could not find it. It is amazing how small an item this coil will find. The charm rang up at a VDI of 18. I would shoot a photo of the good stuff but all I have now is the Wheat. Of course I could photograph the clad but why bother, There was a small amount of can slaw and other trash.

6x9 is an awesome search coil. the target separation is great and is my primary coil for trashy areas.

You'll find that the 6x10 DD will be on your detector 90% of the time. HH Dennis in Idaho

Nice detecting and glad you like the coil. HH to all, Nancy

I really like the 6 X10 its on my machine most of the time........

I love the 6x10 coil, but I have a question.. Whenever I use the 6x10, I notice high pitch tones if the coil hits against the ground. My 12" concentric coil does this too, but the stock coil doesn't have this problem. Anyone else experience this? Is it normal?

Sometimes that can be caused by loose wrapping of the coil wire. You don't say how hard you hit the ground, but I have several detectors that will do that if they bump something pretty firmly. They work just fine other wise so I haven't worried about it. If you are getting that with very minor bumps and the coil doesn't seem to be detecting well, then it might be time to give White's a call.
My two cents,
BB

After working with the 9.50 standard coil, which I like for pinpointing, I switched to the 6x10 dd coil. It was more difficult to get used to pinpointing but am getting better with it. The problem that I am having now is it is showing a hit with a low depth reading, with a VDI of 76, and it turns out to be metal junk 7 to 10 inches down. Is this normal?

Yes it is normal, & at 7" that is a good hit. You should get around the same VDI even if it was on top. The main thing that I do is Cris cross the target to get an idea of it's size, that will give me a better idea of what it is. A pop or beer can at one foot will give a dime penny signal & will be strong, but if you Cris cross the target you can tell by the signal range (the area you cover & still get a signal) that the target is to big to be a coin.
Once you get the pin pointing down with the 6x10 it is a snap,

Bula, that is what I am getting.....a 74 to 76 and it says penny or dime but it shows 0 to 2 inches down and it turns out to be a bottle cap or tin can that is 5 to 8 inches down.....jim

If I get this happening a couple of time in an area, when I get that signal again I will raise my coil about a foot off the ground and see if I still get a signal. If I do then I know it's deep trash.
