first time out with the Tejon

Gave it a try out and seems OK only problem I have is the toggle switch wants to stick a tad this is not a new machine by no means so will try to clean it but may need to send it and get it replaced also I did find out that the dual disc is OK but is somewhat off in the settings the alt disc loses a silver dime at just pass the screw top setting I would think it should still hit it at this point but thats just me the merc was at about 7 inches

Nice dime

I like the silver dime Barry. MarkCZ was having an issue with the toggle on his Tejon, he gave it a shot of electronic cleaner/lubricant and he says so far so good. You can get it at Radio Shack Catalog #: 64-148 I am expecting to get my Tejon tomorrow morning.

Yea will try something later had thought about trading it but I think I will keep it I do like the dual disc I do know one thing it is like the Vaquero on small items . I was hitting peices of wire at over 8 inches I guess I am going to have to break down and get a propointer the Vibraprobe was haveing a tough time locating the targets that small also like the tone ajust to higher tone I think it is time to send the Vaquero in to see about getting it set to a higher tone as well other thing I noticed is threshold tone changes a lot as you move the coil when hunting in all metal mode kinda like it has a low to high movement once over a target and trust me when you get that double beep real strong and raise the coil up to approx 10 inches above ground it will be trash I did some testing on this and everytime dug aluminum shredded beer or cold drink cans so I have learned to listen what it tells me in just one short hunt. I am taking it to a spot in two weeks that is highly infested with iron objects that I know are plenty due to the location will see how it does there . Recently dug a Indian head and a buffalo with the Vaquero .My Grandson dug a civil war button aswell using a Silver Umax so we will see

Nice looking merc you got there.

Thanks I must say I did cherry pick this site with it due to trying the two disc settings so have not set my hopes to high on it since I did have the cowboy on standbuy LOL but tried real hard to refrain from swapping out may still be looking to let it find another place to reside but will have to make sure the toggle switch is functioning properly before this happens. I have a hard time trading a machine that is not 100% operational so may send it to Tesoro to have the Toggle checked and possiably replaced

The switches on all the Tesoro's stick when they get sand/dirt grains in them. As somebody else stated you can simply spray some contact cleaner in there and you will be good. I have to do this on my Silver uMax and am going to buy rubber switch boot to put on the switch.

Yep! and the toggle is still working fine.

Tiny Stuff!

The Tejon seems to LOVE tiny stuff, but not in disc mode it still sniffed it out some how?
I was testing out the Tejon in my front yard the other day and I got this sort-a faint signal but and it stayed in there when I toggled to disc two which I had set to just where a nickel was starting to break up a bit. So, I dug and I couldn't find anything with my pinpointer!
So, I used the detector to check the hole, nothing! I then waved the plug over the coil to find that it was still in the plug.
I then started to curve off the bottom of the plug and kept working at it with the pinpointer. At this point I knew it wasn't a coin, but I had to know what it was. So, I sliced, and I slice, and I kept going over it with the pinpointer and then I would take the remains of the plug and check it over the coil and it was still there. Being determined to find I got down to a few crumbs of dirt and five or six little clippings of grass in the palm of my hand before I finely got a hit on the pinpointer, but I still couldn't see it! so I started looking at each crumb of dirt until I saw it.
I couldn't believe the detector even hit on it.
Its some sort of tiny copper (I think) washer or spacer, I told "ShiWhiz" that it looked like a float needle seat washer from a carburetor out of a match box car, the inside diameter is maybe as big as a standard #2 pencil, but its band is very thin. (and that pull tab is about as small of a tab as I've seen)
I was glad that it will hit on this stuff and still leave iron, I'm thinking this would be good for jewelry hunting.

Wait til you start digging birdshot with it....lol it is very sensitive!

Stone cold truth. I dug plenty of bird shot and even thin straight pins and or needles from the fur trade.

Check your Disc and Alt Disc knobs to make sure they are even. What I mean is, take something like a nickel or tab, and turn the Disc knob till it just breaks out. Then switch to Alt Disc, and do the same thing and see if it breaks at the same mark on the dial. I tested this on mine and the Alt Disc seemed to run a little "ahead" of the primary disc. Obviously this can cause problems when flipping between the two Disc modes to check a target.

To adjust it, loosen the setscrew on the knob and remove it. Disc out a nickel or tab with the Disc, and note the position of the knob. Then use the Alt Disc to disc out the same object with the now bare Alt Disc control. Reinstall the knob at the same setting as your Disc knob and tighten the setscrew. Made a big difference on my detector.

Also, remember to hold the switch in Alt Disc for a couple seconds to make sure it engages into the Alt Disc completely. Seems like mine takes a second to calibrate or something, like it doesn't instantly switch.....but yours may not.

Just thinking out loud. Hope you enjoy your Tejon, mine has been great.

That Tejon won't miss anything, even with disc 2 set on zinc penny. That's the reason I got rid of mine. With the depth that machine has it just gets to be too much work when you dig 8+ inches for a 1/4" ball bearing, etc.......spend a bunch of time with a PP'er trying to find the target. I agree with the above posts....Tejon just way to sensitive and no real info to help make the decision to dig or not....

Doubt you can beat it for a relic machine but imo it's no coinshooter unless you're a dig it all type......

PS: How bout them Seahawks....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will use it for coins in a fairly clean location, that's about it. It's deeper than my AT Pro, but the ATP gives me so much more info that I find it to be more fun to use say...in a school yard. For relics, I love the Tejon, it goes deep.

On the top picture. What is that next to the dime , with the horse on it ?
Hatpin I was told it is a watch Part container from Switzerland that is all I know

To re-set the discrimination loosen the set screw, slowly pull the knob off and reposition it where it will be correct..... there is no flat spot on the protrusion on the knob base

New guy here, not nocking the Radio Shack stuff but you also might try some DEOXIT its a very high quality product not just a cleaner,
