First time out with the new MXT

jlw

New member
Took it out for the first time today did not find much but got some good practice time in seems to pinpoint easily, so far I think its a good machine. Let you know later how I 'm getting along.

Are you referring to the MXT - Pro ? If so, we are all anxiously waiting on post hunt news ! EJ

It's an easy machine to learn with very little curve. You're doing what it takes........Practice, practice, practice. Which MXT are you talking about? Keep us posted. HH, Nancy

Practice is good that's all it takes just hang in there and you'll soon see what a great machine the mxt really is it will run with the best of them.

You've got a wonderful machine and it can run with the big boys. Believe me, I know. ;) Excellent choice! HH and keep us posted, Nancy

the Mxt is a nice machine, basically you can read the manual and start making finds with it. But dont think you will get bored easy, this detector has some cool secrets. As Nancy said, it can run with more expensive machines.

good luck!

Hey Jerry, I dug everything at first to learn mine, just listening to what the different metals sounded like. Listening more than watching the screen is the secret to really learning the machine. Any questions just holler,

Jeff

Hi JLW I am by no means a pro with the Mxt, there are some on this forum I think, Nancy and a few have had the Mxt since it was first built, that have forgot more than I will know, I think you have probably detected for a while since you have
been on this forum for a couple of years, I did a lot of research before I bought the Mxt and for what I use it for couldn't,t be happier. If you are working in low mineralized ground the stock coil, if you got the older Mxt will work 80 percent of the time
a smaller coil in trashy areas, I have detected for a long time, but not in high mineralization soil, I wasn't getting enough
performance out of my coil, but I knew it wasn't the detector, because I researched this detector on the web and on this forum to know others were having good success with it, I bought the book the Mxt edge, by Jeff Foster, and ended up buying a dd coil, for my soil, and made me a detect garden with trash as well as different coins at different levels, In my ground in the gold position that read around the 70 and 80"s Jeff foster has a more precise way to read it, anyway my curve took me a little longer, I am still learning things, I hope I wasn't to long winded, I hope I didn't steep on anybodies toes, I have made some good finds, and find myself doing more research, than I had to in the old days, with me that has become the most important thing, anyway you made a good choice and I don't think you will be disappointed, ....retired 1230@$tree

I 2nd that,,,well said.

Great report 1230! I want to buy a new MXT Pro.

1) Nancy-IL said, "the MXT is an easy machine to learn with very little (learning)curve". If so, then why buy book the MXT Edge, by Jeff Foster ??

Topo said, "the Mxt is a nice machine, basically you can read the manual and start making finds with it. But dont think you will get bored easy, this detector has some cool secrets."

2) Also are there any (VHS or) DVD videos on/for the MXT ??

The new MXT Pro has a new feature Tone ID--7 tones in the C & J Mode that was not available on the regular MXT. Maybe this will help with listening.

Thank you!

Have you looked at these videos yet David. http://whiteselectronics.com/videos/mxt-instruction.html

the M6 tutorial is also interesting to look at.

Jerry,
I got word that my MXT-Pro will be delivered tomorrow. Can't wait to try it out this weekend and get a feel for the new Tone-IDs. I'll let you know how it turns out for me.

Hi David

Nancy is right, about the Mxt, there are alot of people on this forum, I have gotten help from
just reading it, I didn't join it until just recently, Nancy I believe teaches classes on the Mxt, In finding
evidence for law enforcement, something I would like to get into latter on, I am hopping I can go
to her when I get serious about it. nice thing about the Mxt compared to some detectors you can set it
for all the factory settings, and go out and start detecting, the meter which is pretty accurate I think
White says 3 to 4 inches,I have heard some people say up to 5 inches in some soil, not all but a lot
of your older coins are deeper, and that is where Jeff Foster came in for me, whom I learned about
on this forum, for me it was a real eye opener, and helped me a lot, a lot of coins where I am at get
plowed under as well as plowed up, some of the old parks have new soil over the old. His book has
a lot of tips in it to help you find the deeper coins, the Mxt is a lot of times sold to beginners, because
It is a turn on and go detector, but it has a lot of capabilities you won't out grow anytime soon. have
fun with it, I am still learning things about it, need help? come to this forum, that's what I do. 1230@$tree
