Just a quick trip out to a ballfield and basketball court to try out the meter. I didn't need to adjust it at all since it was reading right on 180 with a quarter but I double checked when I got there with a quarter and a nickle. (bad memory and couldn't remember the nickle numbers. LOL)
This place is a real trashy place but the kids just won't bend over to pick up any coins they drop and I honestly can go once a week and pull in a couple bucks in change. Well, today I decided to only dig the 180's just to test the meter..... my first 180 was a penny??? well when checking the date, it was a pre 82 copper....cool I thought no zinc, just copper. Second 180 hit was a wad of foil???? but I continued to check next to the foil about an inch away was a dime... so the meter didn't lie to me. Long story shorter, I only dug two pull tabs expecting nickles, a belt buckle that may be silver plated (did read 180) and purposely dug a 178 and got my zinc penny.
Little over one hour and $4.19 in clad.... I won't post a picture since you all know what they look like!
I bought this GT for the wife to use in the dry/wet sand and she has been doing well with it but now, she will be a terror not wasting time on the bottle caps.
One thing I found out is that having the meter makes my ear work better.... it is a training tool in disguise.... tones on the GT to me aren't that easy to distinguish but now with the meter, I am hearing the subtle tones. Now I can even hear a difference between a quarter and a zinc penny. Of course, the wife said she knows when she is digging a penny due to the sound difference, duh, I should have known.
Way to go Ron, great tool you make there!
