FIRST TIME OUT WITH THE ACE 250

I got my ace 250 this week and today was the first time i got to use it. I went to a school that has yielded old silver in the past but i have hammered it to death with my XLT. I was very impressed with this machine, it is my first garret i owned and i love it. Today i found at the school a 1957 roosevelt dime at 5 inches, 4 wheaties at about the same. Plus a ton of clad change ,and man does this machine love nickels!! I found 8 in my first half hour. I do have a question to anyone that has this machine, sometimes i get a good belltone sweeping one way and the other way it disappears? Also i have noticed i will get a good belltone that locks and when i go to pinpoint there is nothing there. any solutions please let me know. Happy hunting!

A Belltone one way is usually junk. As for the disappearing pinpoint signal - this detector detects deeper than it can pinpoint. I brought this to Garretts attention and hope they can correct it. When this happens you'll have to pinpoint the old fashioned way before pinpoint was invented. Just scan side to side as you drag the coil straight back. The instant the signal quits watch the signal intensity on the display when all the blocks line up all the way across. The target will be under the center tip of the inside oval on the coil.
On the one-way belltones scan real slow over the target and see if it will lock on. If not it's probably junk.

Thankyou for the advice, i went out today and did a little tinkering with these problems. I did notice what you said about pinpointing and you were right. I cant believe the quick reponse this machine has,and the accuracy. I went to a spot that has turned up mostly clad in the past and was surprised i found about $7.00 in clad but i also was digging all signals to get a feel of this machine, I LOVE IT!! HAPPY HUNTING AND THANKS AGAIN!
