First Time Out With The 6" DD 18.75

Well ol Brown finally rolled up with my new 6" DD coil. I've just started working this old motor court that is so full of trash and iron that it's enough to make a grown man cry.
I used the stock the stock coil on my X-Terra 70 the first 2 times I hunted the property. I found lots of clad coins and a couple of tokens, but with all the trash it was hard to get just one item under the coil. I decided to wait until the 6" came to go out again. For me, it was a pretty exciting day. I found a 1962 dime and 3 Wheaties, a 52 D, 46 P, and 42P. For a lot of you these wouldn't be too exciting but I have not detected since the early 80's with an old Garret Groundhog. I got my 70 about a month ago. The area I live in does not have too many old areas to detect that are accessible. These were the first non clad pennies that I have found. The first came at about 6" under an old shade tree. I then found where the old laundry room was and located two holes where the cloths line poles had been pulled out. At first I was just finding lots of clad pennies, a couple of dimes and several clad quarters, so i knew that I was in a promising area. I was running the sensitivity at about 20. I kicked the sensitivity up to 26 and that when I started finding the deeper coins.
The 6" is a joy to use in trash infested areas. It really makes the good targets pop out with good solid signals and pinpointing is a snap.
I'm one of those people with a bad back. A pain pill and I'm good for an hour or two at a time. Today I only lasted an hour. I'd have stayed there all afternoon if the old back would have let me.
I have to say Thank God I got back into metal detecting. I used to work on old cars and race cars. I can't do that anymore and have sold off most of my shop equipment. Sitting on the sofa watching movies is not my cup of tea. I used to being active and out doing things. It's nice to know that I can grab the metal detector and go out an detect any time I want. It gives me something to look forward to.
I'm going to keep after that motor court until I've covered every square inch. It's for sale and vacant. Hopefully when someone buys it and bulldozes the old buildings down I'll hit some deeper areas as they are uncovered.

Good hunting, John K

Good for you John! The more you use the little HF the more she'll grow on you!
