First time out with the 6" Coil

Elusion

Member
This is my third hunt with the CTX 3030 and I just bought the 6" coil from a forum member the other day so I wanted to try it out..... After digging 6 wheats out of a complete trash dump I got a banging 12-40 @ 7". So I'm thinking another wheat. Out pops a 1919 Newfoundland quarter (def a first for me) and I'm thinking that's odd... 12/40 on a silver quarter.... maybe its not silver? Then I shove my pro-find back in the hole and find the 1906 V-nickel (a first for me as well). Also nabbed a 1964 dime right up next to a power pole. In this area my e-trac used to go down to 13 sensitivity. The 3030 didn't budge off 22 (auto +2) and was stable as can be.

All I have to say is WOW. I did not want to stop hunting... This coil is unbelievable. The depth is easily as good as my 6x8 on my e-trac and the separation is unreal -- razor sharp.

I love the CTX 06 just for the reasons you describe. OT, but how do you like the Pro Find compared to Garrett's version? I have two of the Garrett's and not impressed with either as they both have their own quirks (quality control?).

Never used the Garretts as I've always used Sunray in-line probes. The pro-find is great for me, it's built like a minelab (sturdy) and can be super tuned just like the garrett's.. Though out in the field I've only had to super tune it once to find a nail off to the side. Some complain the vibration is weak... I have the sound turned off and wear thick neoprene gloves and I have no problem with feeling the vibration but maybe its because I've never been spoiled by the garrett pp? There is a useless sensitivity button on the pro-find that you will set once to max and never touch again (it remembers your settings even after you turn it off).

I may have to try one eventually. I wish the Garrett had a little more depth to it with no gimmickry. Glad you enjoy the CTX 06. Now go try the CTX 17. I love them both.

How much deeper is the 17" on coins? Does it throw the balance off much?
