First time out with new g2..!!!

Finaly had a chance to head out with the g2. Started to find some flat buttons right off. They sounded sweet
No doubt that they were good. We moved to another field where we started to dig more flat buttons and
Sock? Buckles ... Found many, many many 4 and 2 hole buttons. Also found a NYSNG 23 RG button
A navy button and a small one piece navy. A full day of digging. That g2 is a killer on buttons. Many had
Iron in or very near the hole.
Went out for a short hunt today and found an 1808? Copper. First one of the year and almost passed on
It. I was running 100 sens and it was only 4 inches down. Blew my ears off. the g2', it's a keeper.

I tell everyone that the G2 is the very first detector that lives up to everything people promised. It is an amazing machine. I pulled mine out tonight and was a little sad that it is as tired looking as it is. I use it a lot in some really miserable conditions. It has never let me down. I always manage to tease something out of the nastiest field conditions. Looks like you are a believer too. Congrats, you will find a lot of great things with a G2.

Congrats!. I just got mine. What's a good sensitivity to start out with? I know most say 40?
A setting of '40?' Are you referring to a Discriminate setting of '40' or that low for Sensitivity and have them confused?

Personally, all of my detectors are usually operated at the maximum Sensitivity possible. On my G2 it is almost always set at '100' unless there is severe EMI problems, then I reduce the Sensitivity just to the point of stability.

The Discrimination setting will be dependent on what you want to hear or not hear, and if you want to hear a lower audio tone for probable iron and a higher-pitched tone for non-ferrous targets. If it is the latter, then set the Disc. level a '40' and most ferrous junk will respond with a lower-tone, and non-ferrous targets will produce the higher-pitched tone.

The good thing about the metal detecting hobby is that the equipment we use often comes complete with enough adjustment features to; allow us to pick the set-up we want. Take the time to learn your detector and learn the settings that YOU like to use. Don't always rely on other's opinions and settings .... even if some of us are 100% correct.

As monte says. Most people start with 40 as a disc. Level. Run sens as much as the ground/envirermont will handle.
