First time out with my new HHPI

I finally got a chance to use my new Head Hunter PI. I live in Minnesota so I dug a lot of iron. This is my 1st pulse machine so there will be a learning curve. I read all of Clive's books on pulse hunting so that helped a lot. I was quite surprised at if you listen carefully you can learn to distinguish iron from good targets by the loudness and width of the target sound and quality.I am a long, long ways from mastering it, but in time will inprove. I thought I was having problems pin pointing, I have the 11" coil, but I am wondering if it wasn't a function of the machine detecting so deep. This machine really is deep. My buddy was using a CZ20 and couldn't hear any of my signals.I am very happy with this machine and can't wait to take it with me to Miami next year.

The only problem is the short battery life.
Shhhhhh its one of best keep secret what that detector is capable off.

I'm into my second set of batteries on my HHPI and am liking it a lot too. I had some targets that I dug some big holes in the sand to get to and was wondering about pinpointing too ... except that after each scoop, the target in the hole got louder and was still pretty well centered.

Long thin iron like hair pins and nails give a tell tale double blip along one axis. If you are in a position to circle the target, do so and see if you get the double blip along one axis. Dig some to verify and correlate the sounds to the target. IDing the clear double blips cuts down on the trash dug.

I have found using a wide sand scoop, with the HH PI and 11 inch coil, is a must. You can s also experiment tilting the coil straight up and down, which narrows the detection field. That 11 inch coil is tough at first, but once you start to use it and get a gauge when sweeping at 45 degree angles, where the signal is the strongest, you can get an idea where the target may be.

Keep using it....it will find you the gold.
