:Well i finally got a new se delivered after several months saving hard.
I previously owned an explorer 2 which was a great detector , i sold this last year because i was skint i really missed it a lot  , this was a big mistake selling it . Explorer 2 is now much sought after and are now without doubt gaining a definite cult status in the metal detecting world. The second hand prices on the explorer 2 will hold high for years to come i am sure. I wish i still had it just for the status an explorer 2 holds alone. Not forgetting the great performance. Hold on to your explorer 2 what ever you do don't sell!.
Well back to the explorer SE , After reading alot about this detector over the last few months i finally am the proud owner of an explorer SE. The detector does look nice , but then so does the explorer 2 , so on looks my opinion is their is not that much difference apart from the colour of course. A nice looking detector. The coil is the first thing i noticed- it looks a lot different , thinner and sleeker than the coil on my old explorer 2 , and to say it is only half an inch smaller than the explorer 2 coil it looks and feels a lot smaller for anyone used to an explorer 2. Strength wise it does not look as strong as the chunky coil on the explorer 2, i am not saying the SE coil is weak it just does not look no where near as strong as the ex 2 coil. I decided to try the SE out on a local park for coin shooting practice, I found a few old pre decimal coins that were over 7 inches deep and i have to admit had trouble digging down to some of the coins with my lesche trowel. A thin Small button came out from 7 inches in what was trashy mineralised ground & with a strong smooth repeatable signal, the depth on the se is very good, no problems here. More than deep enough for parks- Depth to spare here no problem! Some targets were just too deep to dig with a 5 inch trowel . I had to re fill and give up on several targets. The smaller coil works a treat on trashy parks. You do notice the less ground coverage with the smaller coil though. I was running in factory coins mode to start with, but i noticed i was getting too much threshold nulling due to the very high trash levels , i decided to search in iron mask -22 which worked very well , less nulling and better target separation were noticed in this mode . I have to say i like the SE a lot. My advice though is if you have an ex 2 then keep it. The difference between the SE and explorer 2 is only small and not worth selling your explorer 2 for in my opinion. The pinpointing i prefer on the SE by far this is a lot better and much more accurate. I would prefer the explorer 2 coil on my SE this is just my own preference and what i am used to. If you don't own an explorer 2 and are thinking of buying an SE then i would say don't hesitate , its a fantastic detector for super in ground depth with superb discriminating features - you dig very little rubbish with explorer's (once you know what rubbish sounds like that is). The explorer SE is a keeper for sure. Another cult detector in the making i am sure.
