First time out with Ace 350

Well Let me start it this way Good news and more Good news and the bad news I so tired I can't type.

I've been playing with Google maps and found this old football field, not far from my house, I didn't know it was there, it was kinda hid behind some buildings come to find out it was a old high school.
I will have to check out the dates on it but I sure it around 1900 or so.

So thats where I started today on the south end I walk under the old gold post to about the 5 yard line turned left and hunted the on the 5 yard line, Now remember I started under the goal post that would only be half the field down the 5 yard line.

By the time I got to the side line I was so dam tired I couldn't hunt any more :surrender:, not from walking but sitting on my butt and digging holes and walking around on my knees :) I have found a virgin site no doubt in my mind.

The first hole I hit a rusted old bottle cap about 3 inches down, I wasn't disappointed at all, to find something old as it was I know I was on to something. Next few targets were pennies but that double D coil was wiping my butt
I couldn't pin point it to save my life  I was missing targets by 12 inches  I finely got a little better pin pointing with the toe but it wasn't good, by the time I dug my 12th hole I was already tired. Now by this time I had to find some better way to pinpoint and I did. The problem was the bar graph peg out on shallow targets so you really couldn't find the center, so I started to raise the coil up off the ground this would cause the graph to lower a few bars so you could find the center if the coil over the target, Now I was on to something ;)

The next few targets I hit within 4" of the target and Was feeling a little better, I can see a Garrett Pin pointer would come in handy with a double D coil.

Next few targets were a more pennies a dime and a quarter and then a Nickel OMG that Ace 350 Locked dead on 5 cents no jumping around at all and no pull tabs  I got three more nickels today the most I have ever found in one 3 hour hunt.

More good news  I'm exhausted and I'm with in 10ft. of the side line and ready to call it for the day and that SWEEEET Bell tone on the ACE 350 goes off again It says 50 cent $1.00, Im thinking what trash is this showing 8" down and I was so tired I almost didn't dig it, SURE GLAD I DID about 7 inches down I could see something silver a being careful now I pop it out of the hole and the pictures are below

Many more weeks to hunt at this one site :heh:

That is a great hunt. Congratulations on the finds and finding such a good place to detect. Detective work pays off.

Great finds bud. You can pinpoint dead on with the DD without even pressing "pinpoint" Just center the target side to side then drag the coil straight back towards you as you wiggle the coil side to side a couple of inches each way.. When the signal stops the target is right under the logo on the front tip of the coil. Only takes a few seconds and saves a ton of time. Most DD's are a piece of cake to pinpoint with.

Texas, I use a pinpointer before I dig. I keep a good eye on the center of the coil at the front. I then start with the pointer from front to back on that imaginary line. Its the only way I can do it. Nice research and finds.

Allready a touchdown. Nice finds . Keep walking around on your knees and digging to the goal line and just scratch your butt every now and then and continue diging and you will have this virgin territory giving it all up..

It's nice to see a post with someone using an ACE 350. And yes.....a Pro Pointer makes pinpointing so easy......:bouncy:

Hot Texas, glad to hear you got your ace350. Even better to hear you have an old football field to your self.I hope you can post pics of everything you pull out of there. Guess my ace350 won't be here till next week. That's okay though,I'll get a chance to take my 250 out today and maybe tomorrow before the weather gets bad again. Look forward to seeing your next post!!:detecting:

Yeah that 350 ought to wipe that football field out, especially with the great coverage afforded by the DD coil.

Bill

I notice with the DD, many seem to like to pinpoint in ID mode. How does
that coil pinpoint when you are in the actual pinpoint mode?
Myself, with maybe the exception of the sniper coil, I find the larger Ace
coils too vague and "broad" to accurately pinpoint in ID mode.
So I've always pinpointed using the actual pinpoint mode, and have
always used the "drag back until the tone quits" method on the two larger
coils. "6.5x9 and 9x12"
Can you do that with the DD? Maybe that would make the pinpointing a
little more accurate. To me, even 4 inches off is a long ways.. I often
stab coins in place using the normal pinpoint method. But I'm not using
a DD...

Well I was playing with it today in the yard and trying Uncle Willy's way of pinpointing and it works very good.

You can pinpoint dead on with the DD without even pressing "pinpoint" Just center the target side to side then drag the coil straight back towards you as you wiggle the coil side to side a couple of inches each way.. When the signal stops the target is right under the logo on the front tip of the coil.

This works very good on shallow target's 3 inches or less, On mine the target in at the tip if the coil, not under the logo. I got so good at it I could do it with my eyes closed :) and be almost dead on.

now on deep targets and where the signal is broken up sometimes, I push the pinpoint button and look at the graph on the screen, It's dead center the the hot spot of the coil.

Nice I'm getting ready to purchase the 350 It will be my first detector........Only question is where from?.....I keep going back to the Kellyco page.Any suggestions?
Thanks Dave

I don't think it matters, I would buy from somebody that sponsors this great site and I think Kellyco does. just ask to make sure it's in stock before you buy.
