First time out today since surgery and it felt good

So as some of you know, I had spine surgery on April 1st. It is now May 7th and I decided I would get out and try detecting today for the first time since last year. I just couldn't let my new 6x8 sef coil and RNB battery sit any longer. I went to a buddies house that I've been to plenty of times and got a solid 2 hours under the belt. Surprisingly I didn't find any coins today, but I did manage to find an old Barclays/manoil lead soldier, a key, a piece of another toy and the best find of today was a 1941 dog license tag. Sorry for no pics, but cleaning the finds and stuff was a task in itself.

I like the 6x8 coil, but it didn't seem like it was hitting that deep to me. I may have been going a little too fast and i was using TTF with a completely open screen, so i was getting a lot of high signals that were still trash. Definitely going to take some learning.

Overall the back handled it well. I am certainly feeling it in my legs and stuff, and my body is very tired, BUT it felt good to get out. Looking forward to what the season has to offer

Congrats on getting back out on the hunt again ! :detecting:

Welcome back (no pun intended)! Thanks for the update. I'd think detecting would be very good re-hab for a back. Take care,

Great to see you get out and sweep that new coil of yours.

Intense interest in a hobby is what keeps us going, sorta like the 'carrot in front of the horse'.

Thanks guys. It really did feel good getting back out. I definitely feel it today, but it will get better as time goes on

Good to hear you were able to get out. It sounds like it may have reminded you what you just went through. Take it slow and easy--April 1st wasn't that long ago. Best wishes on a full recovery.

Glas your surdery went well. Just like me when I got both knees replaced in 2012. I can now kneel on them with knee pads, and the only complaints I get, are from my sore quads, but those are slowly getting better too........nge

Yea, I usually only kneel down on one knee and after doing that the other day my leg is killing me up in the thigh area. I just ordered some new knee pads so I can use both from now on

Bobby,

I certainly know what you're talking about. I had four vertebrae fused and studs/ rods put in my lower back in Feb this year. Doc said swinging a detector would be ideal PT. Went out and could only get down and up twice the first time. Been getting stronger though. Out for five hours last. Good to be out again. Glad you are doing well. Hope your back is doing as well as mine. First time since I played football in 1971 that I have absolutely no pain in the back. Keep getting stronger and keep swinging, man!
