But I did find some stuff.
I have driven by this farm house for years. Last Sunday was out putzing around with the girlfriend and saw a car at the house. No one home but then saw someone at the house next door and stopped and asked if he knew who owned it. He said he did. Was born and grew up there. And said I could detect the property.
Last night charged up the batteries, dug the XS out of a storage bin, fired it up in the basement and listened to all manner of beeping. Love that sound.
Headed out early this afternoon.

Ground is still frozen, in places a couple inches deep, others can get a whole 10" or more. First coin of the year was a wheatie. First good coin was the 1865 two cent piece. It was either silver or nickel coated, kind of confused me at first, thought it was a clad quarter. When I cleaned it up looked like it had been soldered to a belt buckle or something. Awesome shape except for the obverse; there is a patch that screwed up.
Got a 1850 Canadian Bank of Upper Canada one penny token very shallow. Later had a hit that I was sure was silver, ground still frozen here but after much work and several nails pried a 1854 LC out of the ground.
Only one silver- 1937 merc. Pile of wheaties. Still lots of hits left where ground was frozen and much more of the yard to do. Only one clad coin, quarter.
Ah springtime.
