First time out my MXT

New member
I had to take my motor home in for service work in the Amish area of Indiana. I took my new to me used MXT with me as I was going to be there for several days and thought I would get a good learning lesson on this new hobby to me. I would be across the street from a high traffic Amish tourist attraction and got permission to hunt their special events 100 acre field parking area. Of course it rained and rained several days and I wanted to get to hunting. Finally it stopped raining about 3 hours before dark and I headed to the parking detector in hand. It was quite a learning curve and I dug several piles of aluminum cans in a area of about 30' X 100' before I got wiser, no pull tab but whole cans that came up as quarters. It started to sprinkle but I wanted to keep hunting. attached is a photo of my 2 hour hunt. Then it started raining again and poured never stopped until I had to leave for home. I still have 99.5 acres to hunt and I started at the far end away from the attractions. Nothing old most in the 1980's area and the Hot Wheels were 1974. Everything was dug at 5" to 8" Great time learning even at 74

74 years young. :wiggle: What a great story. Thanks waterboy. You'll learn that MXT and it's a wonderful machine. I've had mine for years and wouldn't part with it for any other. You're doing great! Thanks for the picture and keep us posted.
HH, Nancy

I'm right behind you at age 64.
It IS fun isn't it. I'm retired but have to work a bit at
times. Gas is SOOooooo expensive. Must be
for you as well if your driving a motor home.
Nice little bundle of finds.

That's a good story and shows your never to old to dirt fish . I'm right behind the rest of you at a good age of 61 soon to be 62 I hope . The MXT fits into our senior Citizen life style real well . Congrats on your first hunt with the MXT......

Nice finds, especially for the first time. As Nancy said the MXT is one nice detector. My advise is learn the VDI numbers and which ones match with good targets. Forget the icons, they are too general. Dig most of the targets in the beginning to learn good from bad targets.

Put your name and location somewhere like in your signature. It helps when asking and answering questions to know what part of the country you hunt in. I've probably been in Indiana with my fifth wheel.

Did youever get the coil?
Good luck Rob

I'm a young fresh 62...ha ha I've had a good life, have a good retirement, can't complain, the good lord has been good but I have also worked for everything I have...Good hunting guys and gals....John

Good finds Waterboy. Are you from the area? sounds like you were around Shipshewana or Middlebury, Shipshewana is home of one of the countries largest flea markets, covers many acres. Sure would be a great place to hunt but I doubt they would give permission with liability and such. I have hunted places where vendors have set up and found over $2 in clad in a 15' area before.
