First time metal detecting.

Rustys Digs

New member
Well I finally did it. My first time ever metal detecting and with the 3030. I had a blast. I have to say thanks to this site and you folks because I learned a great deal from here before I went out. I

Way to start. If you're like me you will think about the next place to go all the time. Keep posting and letting us know how you're doing

Thanks. I was thinking of that as I was walking off the beach. Hope to find some people around the LA area that would like to do a little traveling to do some relic hunting.

Good job... Have you tried calling the number on the pet id tag?

That's a lot of digging! Now, just start listening for those softer, deeper, older sounds in among all the modern stuff - and silver will follow!

I'm laughing. Yes I have a great deal to learn about the sounds along with the settings.

I sent a text. No reply as of yet.

The results of your first hunt appear to tell a story of a productive outing. Also, although you didn't find any silver, that ring was like the icing on the cake. Very good for your first time.

Tried a text and left it a t the local coffee shop but no joy yet. Kush is a nickname for drugs so it could be a while.

Looks like a lot of digging keep it up got to dig to find it.Your well on your way sube.

So Rusty, when do you want to go out to do some LA area dirt fishing? It looks like we may have a few things in common......

We are in the LA area. (I'm in Santa Monica during the week, and at home in the High Desert on weekends)
You're former USAF and so am I.
You just got a CTX3030 and so did I. Mine was delivered today May 1st and I just got back from my first hunt with it!
And did I mention we are interested in detecting?!? LOL

I'm not a newbie to detecting, but I am new to the CTX and I can see it could be a handful for a new detectorist, although you seem to be off to an outstanding start!!

The Shark

I had a chance to get out for the first time in the dirt. Actually only my second time. A small parking lot to test the 3030 out with a 6" coil. I made a video again but wanted to put the picture up here.
Although I'm really really new to this, the 6" coil seemed to allow me to pick out some stuff I passed over with the regular coil. Mainly the ring. All part of learning I guess. I can't wait to have some time to hunt some fun places once I get this machine down a little better.

The informative first videos were excellent! And with your luck in getting rings on the first two hunts, "GO BUY LOTTERY TICKETS"!

Poker shark...Sorry...just sent you an email. Been out of it for a little while. Playing catch-up....
