First Time in the water with the AT Pro

Waterdog

Well-known member
I took the AT Pro out for a dip in the water today. I left it in Pro Zero and Hunted for a while. When I got in a little deeper water it seemed like it wanted to float away on its own. What modes do you guys use ?

I snorkel with mine and love it. Fresh water swimming holes are awesome if you have any in your area. It's slow going at times but well worth the effort. I have my machine set to just knock out iron and dig everything she beeps on, I don't worry about the VID too much when in the water as its too distracting and difficult to see at times, tones are all I need. The smaller coil (5x:geek: is better in rocky creeks and swimming holes but over all I prefer the stock coil for more coverage if the surface is sandy or pebbles. Besides a good sand scoop I invested some cash in a pair of wet suit boots and are brilliant. Saved my feet from glass and rusty cans many a time. I used sand shoes at first but really soggy and uncomfortable and wet suit boots take a quarter of the time to dry out. Best of luck with your water hunts!
Cheers!

I will be following this thread. The water here where I live, is just about warm enough for me. And I'll be checking into those boots you mention. I've been wearing some Crocs, but they let too much sand in...gets real uncomfortable. And I hope I didn't get the wrong scoop. I've seen a bunch of real nice looking home=made ones. I probably should have asked one of you guys first.

Good thread - I made the same mistake with water shoes - they seem to attract sharp gravel, heh. At least they were just a $4 thrift shop investment  I'll take a look at the wetsuit boots. Then, all I have to do is figure out how to hunt around all the giant pieces of old cars, buildings, and appliances that the floods left behind.

I have been detecting in the water before and always use the water shoes with the zipper that comes up the side. Helps keep the sand out. As for sand scoops I have a few of them. Depends on what the ground is like. Sometimes along the waters edge you just need a screw driver.
I wanted to see what mode you guys use to hunt in the water with the AT Pro.

I use my own set pattern in pro mode to just cut out the iron, I have from 25 and below blocked out and use iron audio accordingly. Best of luck.
Cheers!

I like the wetsuit boots, too. When I used to water hunt with tennis shoes, they were full of sand and a pain to clean.

Where do you get these wetsuit boots...online?

I got mine at the dive shop. I got them to use with my fins, but haven't used them since pool class. The wetsuit boots are great in the water, I just don't know how long they will last using my scoop. It's nice to zip them up and not have a shoe full of sand. Type in diver's supplies or some of the other members probably have some online links for you.

I use a limbsaver sling I got from Kellyco, a vendor on this site. Leaves your hand free to dig your targets with your scoop and not be looking for your At/Pro in the water. It will drift your detector near your scoop sometimes and make it go crazy, but just push it over your shoulder and get back to scooping up your finds.

Like Fongu said from a dive shop, camping store - warehouse / ebay / army disposal store can have them sometimes and sailing - yacht vendors.
Cheers!
