First time at the beach and in the water with an IDX Pro with Mr Bill's mods.

Hello,
I had a couple hours of fun earlier today detecting at a local Seattle area freshwater beach. I am relatively new to detecting again and thanks to Monte I think I have some of the best equipment available. Nothing spectacular but I hit on a bunch of nickles which tell me that there may be some gold around. One nickel I hit at 9" in dry surface and wet subsurface sand. Found a small junk ring too. I also took the thing in the water! There were many targets in the water but I did not have the right equipment for retrieval.

I also found a couple of toy cars and made a gentlemen s young tots very happy by giving them each a car!

Now I have to think about getting a dedicated water machine so I don't mess up my IDX Pro , nor my XL Pro. I would think about a Minelab but I hear so many horror stories about the Excals going in for repair I am a bit leery of them. Has anyone used the Whites Beach Hunter ID up here in the fresh? (The one with the lights) I am watching CrazyMan's latest post to see what kind of feedback he gets. I need a scoop too! I am addicted and have only retrieved on penny from the water so far!

I am going to rig something up to dig with and head back into the H2O manana!

Had a fun couple of hours!

Best Regards,
Steve

Steve, I've done a lot of research on the Beach Hunter ID and I'm sure it would make an excellent fresh water detector. I'm just needing more info on how well it would work on some of our nasty salt water beaches up here. I've heard conflicting results on west coast salt water beaches. If I just hunted lakes I would have one on order right now.

Hi CrazyMan,
Well let me know what you come up with. I am only 20 minutes from the salt, but I don't think I will venture there until I am sure of myself on land and in fresh water. I was thinking BeachHunter ID too but probably read the same conflicting reports you did. I wonder how the Head Hunter units work out? Something about having all that electronic gear so close to the brain seems a bit much, but maybe I am just full of beans. I am going to give it a go in the morning armed with a better digging tool. Years ago I built a couple custom house not far from you just North of the Hood Canal bridge. That whole area on the North end of the bridge was a huge Indian village for centuries. One of these days when I get over your way we will have try and get together. My detector pod looks just like yours, I listened to Monte!

Best Regards,
Steve

Steve, I decided I'm going to pick up a Beach Hunter ID. I have read way more positive reports than negative ones. I'll let you know how well it works around here.

Hello CrazyMan,
Thanks, and yes let me know how well it works around the iron and mineralization. It would be much appreciated.

Best Regards,
Steve
