Well as some of you know I didn't seal the battery compartment right last time I dove. I put in new batteries, LOL had to drive 3 miles and was in my wetsuit when I went into Target. NOT just ANY Target. This one is in a rich section of Michigan and has escalators inside and underground parking. (boy did I get strange looks!!) Anyway, I started diving and it worked for about half an hour. Then started acting up. I got out of the water and opened up the battery compartment. My fear was realized when water came out of it. HOWEVER, the sealed rest of the unit was bubbling water out of a crack by one of the screws.

I called Felix at First Texas on Monday and got an RMA and shipped it that day. They got my machine yesterday. They verified the crack and Felix called me today saying he was with the IRS!! I told him I only find pull tabs, sinkers and bottle tops with my machine and all I look for is vintage sinkers. LOL I knew his voice.

He told me even though the water in the machine was my fault which I completely acknowledged, the crack in the battery compartment was not and they will COVER the repair!! I will have my macnine back in 7 - 10 days. Understand the water machines have to be pressure tested.

They have been an OUTSTANDING company since the bumpy ride from the change over from Fisher to First Texas. I will recommend a Fisher machine to ANY pro or novice detectorist that want to be ahead in the finds department. THANK YOU First Texas!!!

Scubadetector - I've had nothing but positive experiences with Felix and First Texas / Fisher as well. I just got my Technetics T2 back from them today - there were a number of things I needed to have fixed (cracked screen, cracked locking collar and loose toggle switch) - everything was done quickly and they also replaced a couple other things they found needed repair and sent it out promptly.

Just out of curiosity, I have 2 CZ21's (one was an old CZ converted) - what exactly did you do wrong when you replaced the batteries that caused water leakage? I know that one gasket is sort of a pain to sometimes seat, but other than that, I'd like to know what you did so I don't repeat it - although I don't dive.

Thanks,

I put it on the dock and unscrewed the screws with my dive knife. I don't know if I put the gasket in upsidedown or what. I know I was absolutely BUMMED when I saw all the bubbles coming from the crack though. I was going to take it appart and dry it out. I am GLAD I didn't touch it.

I was in a hurry to get back in the water so anything is possible. I do know no part of the gasket was sticking outside of the spot it was suposed to be in nor were there any dents in it where it wasn't in the right spot. Upside down is the only thing I can think of.

LOL want to sell a CZ-21?? I am in the market for another backup machine!!!!

Dang - that definitely sucks :(. I really like how solidly built the CZ20/21 is - it's definitely been a workhorse and the CZ20 (8" coil) I had converted to a 21 has paid for itself many times over - especially since I bought it used. I just bought a new CZ21 with 10" coil for my wife - she started hunting with me last year and I let her us my T2 on the dry sand just to see if she would enjoy it. She has lots of patience and has been having fun, so I'm "rewarding" her with a brand new CZ21 to use in the wet sand - I'm hoping we can cover quite a bit of territory together - she'll have a learning curve as to what to listen for. She tended to completely trust the T2 to tell her exactly what was under the coil despite my telling her every detector with a display screen can be tricked - especially if searching for gold.

If it turns out she really doesn't enjoy wet sand/water hunting, I may think about selling one of the CZ's, but for now I've got mine and a potential backup if I ever need it too :).

About the only downside to the CZ21 as far as I've been able to tell is that it's probably average or a little below average on small gold, but I've still picked up my share of hoop earrings and kids/small women's rings so it's not even to outweigh all the positives. Besides, I feel like I'm really in tune with that detector, and knowing your detector and trusting it is really the most important thing as far as I'm concerned.

Hope you get yours back all in one piece and it finds enough for you to pick up a good backup machine :).

Good luck,

Paul
