First Tesoro

Started detecting over 30 years ago and never had a Tesoro before, I felt I would give it a try. I sold my blue box and bought a vaquero. My wife asked me if I settled for less, I did alot of research and feel I made a good choice. I have seen this unit in the field and was impressed. I mostly coin hunt and this detector seemed to fit my needs. I have owned alot of good detectors over the years and I hope this will be another one. Anyone have any thoughts?

Use the machine enough to get to know it and I'm thinking you will like it fine.

Rodbuster congrats on your new Tesoro Vaquero, I still hunt with a 25 year old Tesoro royal sabre but when i do make that next purchase it will be a Vaquero or a Tejon, from all the reviews and great things we read about those two models how could you go wrong and remember you now have a Lifetime Warranty. The blue box the green box the yellow box or any other color box cant match the Tesoro warranty.Tell wife that no you didnt settle for less You Upgraded and do it with a smile knowing you made the right decision...Markmac

I used the Vaquero for coin and jewlery hunting and it was top notch, have fun!

There's no such thing as a bad Tesoro if it's working as it was designed.

The V is one of the few models I haven't owned. I've had several Tejons and loved them all.

Tesoro says the Tejon is a little deeper than the Vaquero but they usually recommend the V over the Tejon. On the Tesoro's forum many of us have asked why but never really get a straight answer.

So based on the Tejon let me say you should love your Vaquero.

After years of detecting, I decided to try my 1st Tesoro. I bought the Cibola 1st because it has the preset GB and at the time I was trying to get one of my sons into detecting with a display and he was not keen to manual GB. I prefer manual GB myself but took the kid into consideration at the time.
First time out with it and I was impressed. Fast, light, depth, and nice audio. I wasn't using the pinpoint button after 15 or so minutes of using it because Xing a target is tight - so after that, no pinpoint button needed. Response and recovery - nice.
The 5.75 coil work well in trashy areas and gets decent depth.
I always use headphones and use the SunRay Pro Gold on the Tesoro's.
I couldn't have just one - So after that, I added 5 other Tesoro detectors in about a year :smoke:

one my deepest detectors had on coins loves large cents for sure and i know you will think i'm off my rocker but try on the frequency shift the lower frequency to run and see if your coin count comes up for some reason i swear mine did and i don't drink

i have owned and used several tesoro detectors all have been very good machines ...markmac i had a royal for a long time a great machine, great paint color.

I just got back from detecting a old park (new to me). I haven't been able to get out in a little over a week because of weather. Today, I took the Silver uMax broken down in the bag for the motorcycle. This way I get to ride and detect - life is good. Anyway, I made quick work as it look like lightning was brewing near - I didn't take my lightning detector (Strike Alert) with me this time. I got out there and dug up maybe a couple bucks in changes and 3 pieces of junk jewelery, smashed up. The thought crossed my mind when I was out today - "this would be a nice little first machine". Just so easy to use - but don't have manual GB.
The Vaquero is manual ground balance and has more punch, but the Silver is a smooth little turn on and go.
It was just so nice to ride & detect today.
I can't see going wrong with the Vaquero or some of the other Tesoro's.

these machines sre so easy to learn and pack a punch. i own 2 xlts, and let me tell ya, they sit in the corner as backups. ive used the V, and like it alot. the cibola is my main machine for civil war relics. life time warranty says it all.

well if you know v-8 engines at all think of the vaquero as a 383 magnum and the tejon as a 426 hemi there is'nt to much out there thats going to come along and blow your doors off

amcjavelin since i have been selling cars for 31 years, so i do understand the v8s and have sold chryslers for the most part of that time and both those engines were excellent powerful muscle car motors just as im sure both the vaquero and tejon are the new work horses in the Tesoro lines.i cant give up my Royal Sabre but im looking forward to a vaquero or tejon one day along with it or maybe even something new that may come out soon from Tesoro...Markmac
