First Spin with new e-trac!

Hello all, I tried out my etrac for the first time today in a graded off lot which was a kiddie park in the 40's. The results are great, except that I can't differentiate between silver and clad coins, like I can with my old explorer xs. If anyone has any tips for telling the difference between a merc and clad, please let me know. Thanks in advance!
The half is a 1917-d. There are 5 old tokens, three odd shaped at the top and 2 round at the bottom. 4 silver rosy's, 1 merc, silver quarter and I was digging everything that sounded good. I think I'll keep it!

i just started using the explorer xs and i can't tell the difference between a clad dime and a silver. wouldn't it be better to just dig the coins. if its clad it could be masking something deeper. i do occasionally skip penny signals if there not deep.

Hey Brillofromcincy, glad you like your new detector and nice finds!. With Threshold Pitch at 21 and Variability at 29 I can tell the difference between a clad dime and a Mercury dime in multi tones. The silver dime has a slightly higher pitch. But clad quarters and silver quarters sound the same. Dan :detecting:

Thanks Dan. I have my variability and threshold pitch set about where you mentioned, but it's still not as nice as the xs explorer sounds or screen. On my old explorer, the sounds would rise in pitch from clad, up to barber, up to mercury. Also the crosshairs will stop at the top of the screen for clad and barber, and halfway off the screen for mercs. Between the tone and crosshairs, I can predict with 90% accuracy before I dig which of the 3 dimes it is.
So far with the etrac, it seems that all 3 dimes fall exactly in the same place on the screen, have exactly the same fer-con numbers, and instead of the merc being higher in pitch, the clad is....I don't get it. I will dig all dimes, but I really liked being able to 'call em' before I dug em, especially in a cherry picking situation.
Thanks for the suggestions and HH!

try the threshold pitch a 1 and the sounds will widen out

Hey brillo!
Long time no see! Had fun on that hunt in Cinci a few years back with Cincy Bandit. Glad to hear you finally upgraded that old XS! Are you going to mod your E-Trac too? Nice digs. I use the numbers, not the SmartFind on the E-Trac. Multi tones maxed out, and between that and using the numbers I can tell silver from clad. Silver has a higher tone. It has taken getting used to, but now I can do it easily.

last three barber dimes found with Exp. II sounded like pennies, sort of a box of cracker jacks, more exciting to know what it is when it's in your hand.

Hey Nick,
good to hear from you. I stopped posting for awhile, but now I'm trying to get back into it. I think I will begin by hipmounting the etrac rather than chest mounting it. My first hunt on yesterday really bothered my shoulder and back. I think just hipmounting it will help. I will be experimenting with the tones and variations to better hear silver from clad. I like it so far. HH
