First silvers of the new year...

Joe G

New member
Had to leave work early today so I could get new tires for the van. Had a nasty bubble in one and the others don't have much tread. I didn't want to take chances just in case we actually do have a winter :)

Well, I got the tires and on the way home I just "happened" to pass a local park... What the heck, I decided to take an hour or so and swing a little before I went home. I've hit this park before but not often. Instead of hunting my first choice of area, I went with the last place I would pick to hunt :) Turned out to be a good decision.

First target was a 1950 Rosie

No more that 2 feet or so away I hit a '46

Hmmm... I figured this would be a good area to tightly grid out, when BANG! I get a blast of silver in my ears. Turned out to be a big, heavy medallion:

Here's the back:
<img src=http://render2.snapfish.com/render2/is=Yup6aQQ%7C%3Dup6%3DzqH%3AxxqUD7qRUrKxzX7BHpUUKxgXPJa%3F87KR6xqpxQQ0nxaJexelexv8uOc5xQQQ0PlJPelQe0qpfVtB%3F*KUp7BHSHqqy7XH6gXPJa%7CRup6lne%7C/of=50,508,443>

Now it's starting to get dark and I don't want to leave :) My next hit was this '42 Merc:
<img src=http://render2.snapfish.com/render2/is=Yup6aQQ%7C%3Dup6%3DzqH%3AxxqUD7qRUrKxzX7BHpUUKxgXPJe%3F87KR6xqpxQQ0nxaJexelexv8uOc5xQQQ0PlJPeGoJQqpfVtB%3F*KUp7BHSHqqy7XH6gXPJe%7CRup6lQQ%7C/of=50,590,442>

Well, at this point I can't see a darned thing and I decide to swing once or twice before I left. I don't think the cops like people in the park at night... I got a silver hit but it was too shallow... I pried open the plug and it was just under the tip of the digger. Nicked it pretty bad...

I know where I'm going on Saturday morning :lol: Looks like a good start to the new year :thumbup:

Joe you are on fire! I would pound that site! :) Congrats dude! My first silver was a little butterfly! That medallion is awesome! :)

Thanks Mike. I do intend on pounding that area. I've only just touched it.
Yeah, the Jesus Medallion is really nice. So nice and heavy, I think I'm going to get a silver chain for it. Ah, I'll just find one :)

what a haul for the short time - good luck on the return. Several months ago I dug an identical silver Christ head as that one. No writing on it tho, Steve in os az

While it's not a very trashy area, I was planning on going back with the platypus on Saturday morning. The coins are only about 4-8" down so I shouldn't have any problem depth wise. I was using the stock coil tonight (I like it a lot). It picked out the Merc which was down about 8". I dug the plug and another couple of chunks of dirt (man the ground is like butter!) and I could see the silver edge, almost straight up and down.

my 8" about 85% of the time! Maybe I should come spend the weekend and help you with that spot! :)
