Hi All, I am a new to metal detecting and a new member on this sight. I broke in to this sport with a new V3i in late June, and I agree with most that there is quite a learning curve, but things are getting much easier to find and pinpoint.
I have been reading posts on this sight and others and with your help and that of friends in this sport I think I'm getting the hang of this wonderful machine.
I was out this Sunday afternoon and finally found my first big find, a 1941 mercury dime in good condition; I'm feeling purity good about this find, I also found a civil war 3 ringer (a little banged up) a few weeks earlier
I just wanted to say thanks to all on this sight and the information I was able to receive and use with great success.

Gary

You are welcome. You will be finding more of the good stuff I'm sure.

You have a fantastic tool there, in the V3i...what part of the mitten are you in? I'm over by Muskegon. Lets see some pictures when you can, and WELCOME!

I live in Oakland Twp. just N of Rochester MI I have been hunting mostly in parks in Rochester, Addison, Metamora and Ortonville, so I have been getting around a bit, I hope to hit come old home sights when the snow melts next spring (due to the tall grass now) so with a little more reading and trying different settings, I hoping for a great 2012.

One more thing, what do you all think would be a good machine for my girl friend?
She has come with the dealer me and a few times, and borrow a machine he carries in his trunk, she is having fun but wants her own that she can learn and understand but, doesn

Welcome to the forum Gary. I bet your hunting season is just about over for the year up there, snow tonight?

I purchased a used DFX for my wife and it cost $400 with less than an hour on it and all accessories. She is thrilled with it.
