First silver

It finally happened. I found my first silver and it was in my own back yard. I was becoming pretty fed up with all the trash in the yard. Today I decided to discriminate every thing but silver coins. I was just finishing my sweep in the yard and the detector rang out silver. I dug about 2 inches and there it was gleaming up at me. Needless to say I did the detectorist happy dance and ran to the house to show the wife. Today is my anniversary and it was the detector gods presenting me with a gift. It is quite large and has 925 on the inside of the band. The funny thing is my detecting buddy and I spent the morning working a city park and an old abandoned church and a schoolyard with nothing but clad to show for it.

That's a mighty fine looking ring there. Although I've found a few silver rings in my time; not compares to what you found!

Congrats!

Very Neat Ring!!!...I love nature, so the eagle would be an added plus for me...is it a class ring, or something else?...Still, very nice sterling silver...

I would have been very happy to have found that ring and if it was my size, would have worn it and looked at it regularly, very happy. What kind of detector do you have that let's you know that the object is silver? By your name I would guess that you have a Titan detector. But not Titan nor any detector specifies silver. You can't discriminate everything but silver coins. You may get a high reading in VDI numbers or it'll indicate quarter, half, or dollar. But getting a signal in those icons could turn out to be clash. How did you KNOW silver was in the ground?

It is not a class ring. I believe it got there two years ago when we had a giant cottonwood tree cut down and stacked at the back of our lot by the tree cutting crew. We finely got someone to take the wood so I swept it in the silver coin mode only and it marked the spot as a silver quarter.

The Titan can be discriminated to show only Silver coins and silver. Look at the dial on the right side of the face of the dial and you will see silver marked at the top as well as silver coins. It will not show tabs zinc pennies or copper pennies when you have it set like I did. You might find a few clad dimes or quarters that way and possibly an aluminum can but it works great looking for silver in trashy areas. I wear the ring all the time now. The Titan I use is the Titan 3000XD.

I just went out and double checked the ring and got a 134 VDI which is supposed to be a silver dollar. So you might say my Titan showed me silver. Don't you think?

I see what you are saying. I hate to bust your bubble but your detector nor any detector can be set to find only silver. What you have is that your display has been enhanced to show you where silver will fall with the word SILVER. But the display leaves out that the silver area is also the clad area. So your ring fell in the silver area but it could have been just as well a clad quarter, half dollar, or dollar. You also have an area marked GOLD but you're also going to find a lot of junk under those words.

You can discriminate everything up to zinc coins and still find copper cents and up.

I used to have a Tital 3000XD except it was in another incarnation as the Bounty Hunter Discovery 3300 which is a close relationship of the Fisher F4.

I like the plainer display on the 3300 although for a short while I was "jealous" of the flashy display of the XD.

Great ring, and in your backyard on you anniversary to boot!!!

You are being a little picky. I know that you will find some clad with it set in the mode I had it but when it states it was a silver dollar or a Franklin half for that matter the chances are it is silver. That is all I meant when I said it was silver. I was not trying to say it will only show silver in the mode I had it set. I mentioned earlier that it will pick up some clad and aluminum cans When the vdi is high enough to indicate it to be a silver dollar you can bet it is silver. End of story.
