First silver with the CTX

After 10 days of playing in the yard and some close by modern parks, I decided today was the day to put my new CTX to work. I went to a location that has some old sites I've been working. It's a large area, so it'll take me most of the summer to cover it all. I got to the first spot and got setup. I worked a grid back and forth and had gone about 30 minutes before I got the first signal....a 12-46 bouncing to 13-46. I pinpointed and dug a plug about 4 inches deep. I rolled it out of the hole and ran the coil over it. The target was in the plug so I moved the plug closer to use my ProPointer and as I did a silver Washington quarter fell out onto the ground. It came right from the center of the plug, so the pinpoint was right on the mark. I tucked it into my pill bottle and continued on. The next signal was a 12-40 at 6 inches and from that hole came a 1936S Wheatie. I worked this site a little more, but decided to move to another location that I've almost finished covering. I'd already dug quite a few Wheaties from the 1940s at this new spot, so I expected to find some more and hopefully, a few pieces of silver. My first target read as 12-38 at 5 inches. I dug the plug and the target was still in the hole. I isolated the target with my ProPointer and dug out a little more dirt. There, two Wheaties stuck together. Got those two, but the ProPointer said I wasn't done. I found another Wheatie and then a fourth. A nice little Wheatie spill. I covered that hole back in and made another couple of swings. Another Wheatie, then another. In a 3 foot circle I ended up digging eight Wheaties. And I found no more anywhere else on this site. But I did find a Rosie about half way through that was at 12-45, bouncing to 13-45 and just as I was about to quit, the 13-46 I started the day with came back to me and I pulled another Washington quarter.

The CTX proved itself to me. All the targets came in nice and clear. Some of the areas I'd worked with my E-trac last week, but honestly I didn't grid it as thoroughly as I did today, so I won't say the E-trac missed these targets. The hardest thing for me with the CTX is pinpointing, but I've been practicing and I only dinged one of the Wheaties. That's not bad for a dozen keepers. I do miss my X-1 probe though!! Here's some pics!

Stack of Wheaties. There's nine. The two on the right are on top of each other. Ranged from 1929S to 47S. Most were in the mid-40s.

I also found this military button. I don't know from what era, but since most of the Wheaties were in the mid-40s, I'm guessing it's from WWII or Korea. Probably Korea as the Wheaties had some wear on them when dropped.

That's some spot you got to hunt......beautiful silver!!!!:clapping:.......Good luck with the CTX on more silver.... and gold too!!

I love the beautiful shine of silver in the dirt. I have only found one silver that was tarnished. It was a 1906 quarter that I found at a boat landing on a nearby river.

How did you clean them?

Water and baking soda. Wash off as much dirt as you can with the water. While the coin is still wet get a pinch of baking soda between your thumb and forefinger and massage the coin. It puts a great shine on them. Make sure it doesn't have any collector value though because the baking soda will put micro scratches on the coin. Some people don't like them this shiny, but I do.

Thanks for the comments.
