First Silver with the CTX

After a 2 or 3 1/2 hr., 1 hr. hunts I finally hit silver with my ctx, in my own front yard! I was testing out Gonehunting's set up with a couple of changes for our, Ca., mineralized ground and got a good repeatable 12-42 reading. The ctx had 7 or 8 inches on the screen for depth. When all was said and done, I think the dime was a bit deeper. I didn't measure, but my lesche was in the hole to the hilt at dirt level, my grass is cut to 3" and I generally do not touch the grass, or dirt, while I'm swinging the detector, I'm just above it. That's why I think the dime my have been a bit deeper than what the ctx was reading. I also found 3 wheat pennies. Two at the 3" to 4" depth. But the third, similar to the dime, at about 7" depth.
I was really surprised to find this dime in my front yard. I had go over my front yard with the E-trac and found nothing past 3" or 4" deep and certainly not silver and I hadn't found anything at all in the last year. My back yard, on the south side, is a telephone pole location. I couldn't get my E-trac to run stable enough on that side of my back yard without reducing the sensitivity to about 10. With the ctx I had no problem with the sensitivity. The sensitivity was running at 23 with auto +3 on. What a difference.
All in all, after reading most of the posts on this forum, the ctx seems to be holding true to what everyone is saying about this new machine. The balance, stability, the depth. All good, and I'm glad I got one.

Now all I need is a PC to run the exchange!!

HH

congrats on the silver

You are off to good start with that CTX. A PC, even a used one might be a good buy just to run the Xchange2 and mapping features.
