First silver with Compadre!

Stoof-tabsallday

Well-known member
So I wanted an easygoing hunt yesterday around my apartment complex, so I grabbed my compadre.
I love this machine. Did before I found this coin too!
I found 3 clad quarters, 2 dimes and 6 pennies. Ended up giving the clad to the kids that were following me amazed at what I was doing lol.
But I just made the cut off with this half dollar. 1964.
It's seen better days, but it's silver!!
Considering doing a baking soda/foil and boiling water clean of it considering it's condition anyway.
Yay for the compadre!!!
Going at it again today. The rest of the detectors will stay at home!!

incredible find> how deep was it ?

Well in retrospect, I should have measured and logged more... but I was excited. I would say about 3-4 in.
Definitly no more than 4.
Today went back to the same area and it was pennies.
Well pennies and aluminum, but mostly pennies, and some dimes.
Got a hot tip from a gent passing by about a ring lost a couple years ago and where near where I was.
Needless to say, I know where I'll be focusing on for a bit...

I have never found a Kennedy silver half . That is some find . Congrats .
I think it was just right place right time.
Not a very treasure filled area, but I was happy to say the least!!!
Thanks.

the old fella did he walk a bit funny and have a bit of a strange look on his face, I have met him he told me the same thing funny old bugga I am a wake up to him all over the world he travels telling porky pies.

AJ

Haha porky pies

He even said, Noone found it but it could have been hit by the lawnmower or some lucky kid could have found it. It's not a large area. Maybe 100 ft X100 ft. Worth a try and I was gonna make it there anyway, just sooner now :)

2 ways to find a gold ring have one exactly the same and see its ID or where it discs out at or dig everything from zinc down, which is sort of a bit hard with a Tesoro unless you have a Tejon that would help a bit, or dig everything from zinc up and then disc at iron and dig everything, put simple gold is expensive because its hard to find especially in a park, but I wont find bugga all sitting here typing will I :poke:

so the moral to the story the more I dig the luckier I get !

good luck and ya just never know what's going to pop out that's why its fun.

AJ

Well said AJ

So if I'm looking for that gold ring that guy was talking about I dig everything above iron?
It was dropped only 2-3 years ago so shouldn't show as iron from being deep.

yes it will be above iron if its still in one piece and we have to think it is was it a woman's or a mans ring ? you know did it have a stone setting or was it just a plain band? I would use the Deleon with the 7" coil and just starting digging set disc low between iron and foil should be fine unless its a real high K fine ring.

AJ

Man's ring. Stones on it. Possibly platinum.

Considering he said it was worth ( or he paid) ~$8000 platinum is a possibility.
Deleon is a good idea. I'm gonna hit that area with many detectors.
Might try with my relic first.
High freq @ 19khz could help with the gold

yes its a crap shoot or needle in the hay stack stuff finding gold/platinum just because it lives with the stuff people love to toss on the ground, but I believe in reward for effort , keep disc low dig where there's a high chance of rings, and if we keep at it something nice will pop out. the secret is sticking at it

Yeah for this specific hunt, I'm going to pretty much dig everything that's solid and hope for the best.
Normally I don't dig it all, but in this spot I'll have to in order to get that ring!!
And there's no rush. Noone else is gonna find it lol.
I doubt my area has been hunted. For a long while at least. I'm sure that Kennedy wouldn't have been there if it had been.

Deleon scheduled for delivery friday, so I'm gonna have to go at it with the relic. Too excited to wait!!!
I can always pound that same area with multiple detectors.
In reality, the only way to be sure it isn't there is dig literally every piece of metal out.

that's is right dig everything see what comes out, everyone whinges about tabs but they keep the gold locked up for those who want to work for it  or should I say are silly enough :detecting:

AJ

Haha I avoid it too most times, bUT not when I have a tip about an expensive ring.
