Went out tonite to do an area near an old school which has a row of trees near the road. was popping out quarters and dimes with the ace250 when I got a signal jumping between a half dollar and dollar. After digging 13 inches pulled out a plain silver band ring about a half inch wide filled with dirt. Not having my glasses I waited until I got home , and with a 4X magnifier could not beleive what it said in the ring.It said half dollar united states of america e plurus unum.My aunt told me during the depression of the thirties people would take silver coins and make wedding bands from them. This one was made good with no seam. All of a sudden it all made sense.HH Wayne

They are still being made, appropriately called coin rings, I think John-E still makes them in the winter to relieve cabin fever
