First silver of 2014....a BIG silver!

I started on a new field site today. When we first got there the ground was pretty firm since temps were in low 30s, we started getting some relics and as the sun warmed up the ground it got softer and softer. We had to leave when every step we were sinking clear to our ankles. We then went into town and hit a grassy area, got my first silver of the year. 1951 franklin half. Found two junk rings, 2 wheats, $5.64 in clad and last dig of the day was a. 1945 merc. Good day!

nice, real nice

Descent Day!

I found an oval button like the one in the upper left of your first pic. Any idea on what, and how old, that is?

the item you speak of is a buckle not a button.........I'd guess it is late 1800's

nice digs. what era is the lower righthand buckle (lower left pic)?
all I know is this site was on 1872 map and GONE by 1914 map.........so I'd guess everything is mid to late 1800s

Nice find....!!!!! I've dug my fair share of halves (got another today...clad) over 23yrs, 6-7 walkers, 1 seated, couple of silver kens, 8-10 clad, etc. but for some reason I've only managed 2 Bens and that was way back in the beginning. They seem awful hard to find.....

It was nice to get out today for my first hunt since Nov. (got a few clad is all)

What a way to start "first of the year" silver Terry! Congratulations on the finds and thanks for the pictures.

Nice silver half..don't care how many you dig, seeing big silver in the dirt almost sends a shock through ya every time:clapping:

What do those halves ring up as on the etrac?

conratulations on the beautiful BIGGIE :clapping:
ive found about 6 or so, so far with the etrac and the numbers can vary a lot. 2-46 to 8-48 or so.

Love the big Silver - congrats ! :beers:
