First silver of 2013...A big ol' chain!

REVIER

Well-known member
First gold of the year was a gold and diamond ring, now my first silver of the year is this 20 inch, 28 gram Figaro style beauty.
Gonna be a good year.

Very nice chain, was it tangled in the grass roots.

I opened the hole and one end of the chain was in there.
I pulled on it and it slowly came up inch by inch, so it fell off the owner was in a pretty straight line when it went under and most of it was below the roots.

SWEET FIND!

very nice find!! nearly an once right?

Pretty close...although not quite as heavy as the rope chain I found next to a basketball court last summer.
It does match a nice thick Figaro bracelet I found at another park last year.

I have done pretty well since I moved to Kansas a year ago December in the silver chain department.

Since 1-7-12 here are all the silver chains I have found so far in my new home state.
Not one of them came in as a high tone silver, but that's ok, I dig most solid signals I come across so they couldn't hide from me!

These were all over the board from iron on that really small kids bracelet up to zinc on that thick Figaro men's bracelet.

Excellent finds! I've never seen so many nice chains found. I have a Cibola, but use it as a back up machine, perhaps i should use it more often. I've always heard that Tesoros are deadly on chains. I guess your living proof of that.

About the only thing a magnet will do is tell you if a piece of jewelry is NOT gold or silver if it attracts in the least little bit. However, if it does not attract at all, that does not mean it is sterling silver or gold. To determine if your pieces are sterling silver or gold, you would have to do further testing, such as touchstone acid tests.

These silver chain collection is excellent.I have not seen this type chain in my life.Jewellery normally differs from other items of personal adornment in that it has no other pupose then to look appealing, but human's have been producing and wearing it for long time.

Whatever you are doing you need to tell us about it?Nice jewelry finds!

Nothing earth shaking.
I use good, sensitive detectors, (Vaquero, F2, Compadre), tried to learn them well and always strive to keep learning, and try to use the correct coils and techniques for each site.
I am going to try to dig more older coins this year so the Vaquero will be used much more, but most of these chains wer found with the Compadre and the F2 in my usual type of hunting sites, public parks.
Except for the thick men's bracelet which was found with the 8" coil, all the others found with the F2 were sniper coil finds.

As far as techniques I am out there for the exercise as much as the treasure and I evolved into a mostly dig it all hunter over time.
At least a dig it all solid signal digger, and I still dig a lot of the iffy or targets I am pretty sure are trash in case they are masking other great targets and that has worked from time to time.

Not one of these chains came in as a high tone silver signal, just about every one was in the range of trash.

Someone I know on another forum that has been doing this for decades and has been very successful said it best one time...

"I am not out here to swing...I am out here to dig!"

In another post I read long ago the hunter stated that the best thing he ever found came in as foil and that changed my way of thinking, also.

I dig lots of trash and every zincoln signal I come across, usually, but when those gold and silver surprises pop up instead that makes it all worthwhile.
