First silver coin with the new Etrac

Mark in S.E. IA

Hi guys,

I have been using the X-terra 505 with the 10.5 DD coil for the past 9 years and I've done pretty good with it but I figured it was time to move up to the Etrac.

Last week I used it for the first time and took a lil road trip down south to get in to some ground that was not froze, I only found 2 wheat's and some clad. I didn't find much but I had fun with the new Etrac.

Yesterday I went to a place that I can't really say too much about because I know of a few guys in my area that reads this forum and if I say too much about this place they will be on it like flies on sh--- , lol.... I did ok, I found my first Etrac silver, 1892 Barber dime and some wheat's.

Ok, here is where I need a lil help from the guys that is really good at finding really deep old coins. What is the best setting for getting the MAX depth out of the Etrac using the stock 11" coil? In the past I would do really good at this place where they did some digging but I could not find any coins with the X505 where they didn't do any digging, only in the 3 places they did some digging. This place is one of the reasons why I bought the Etrac in hopes of getting more depth because I have a feeling the old coins there are a good 12" or deeper. The coins I found there yesterday was in the area where they did some digging last year and I must of missed them with the X505.

Here is the settings I was using yesterday. I had line 25 and down notched out, Auto sens +2, deep-off, Fast-on, volume Gain 29, threshold Pitch 28, trash Density High, Ground Difficult.

I know most of you guys will say to buy a bigger coil and I might just do that but if you have any other ideas I would be thankful

Nice silver Mark....hmmm no email from u, ur slipping! I think your settings are fine. Lol....because I gave them to you. Coins 11-12 inches are gonna be very bouncy and this is where you will have to pay attention to sound over numbers, you moght get a high tone then a ker-thunk sound. Those can be deep coins, coins on edge, or even junk. But if you can get it to sound off from two angles dig it.......another way to get more depth is to obviously use manual sensitivity as high as you can get your machine without it being too chattery. 25 manual is much stronger than 25 in auto +3

Nice Old Barber Mark!,
Your settings seem right on. I almost always run + 3 Auto. The real deepies start to turn into faint very chopped chirps but are repeatable.
Build yourself a test garden and play around would be a good way to practice them also.
