First silver coin using my new E Trac.

Hello,
I'm new to metal detecting. Started hunting in the beginning of April of this year when my friend let me use his Explorer II. I had no luck at finding anything at first, not even a clad coin. Then I read the manual.....da me. After that I started finding clad coins every where. I did find one 1943 Mercury dime. My first.
My same friend bought an E Trac and he loves it. So I got out the credit card and ordered one for myself. I got it on April 28th.
As I have only had it 5 days I have been using it in the "right out of the box" mode. This is weird. I have been hunting this park. It has been hunted to death,
but is known to produce silver once in awhile. I put my gear on, went to the nearest grassy area there, turned on the E Trac, did the noise cancel thing and not 6 feet from the curb on my first swing I got a good signal. 11-44 and a very nice high tone. So of course I dug it. Out popped a 1945 Mercury dime. It was only a couple of inches down. It is so fun to see a nice silvery looking thing pop out at you from under the ground. :yikes:
Attached is a couple pics of both. First one is the 1943 plain. Then the 1945D. Thanks for reading.
Dan.

Very good start.Nothing wrong with Coin mode Auto +3 and go. Open the top for silver dollars.
You could swing with very great results that way for a long time and do very well.

Good job on the first silver bud.

Great job, Dan! Congrats on both of those Mercs! You've got the fever now.

Looks like you quickly get the hang of it and they'll be no stopping you now. Happy hunting.

Doug

See there--you've already got the "FEVER".-----Too late now--there's no known cure for this "tectitis" malady!!-----Once contracted, the ONLY thing that can bring (temporary) relief is diggin more silver!----Congrats on those Mercs!----Two of the most beautiful coins the U.S. ever had (IMO), the Mercury dime & the Walking Liberty half (by the same designer, Adolph Weinman).--------Del

Hope it's just where I am hunting thats the reason for it.. Keep us informed please..

And so, the addiction begins.Let me know if it gets to bad. I may still have the number for SA. Silvers anonymous. lol nice mercs. Congrats! :clapping:

Fun ain't it!!!! Hope you have many more pictures and stories to share in the near future!!! Thanks for these.

Hello,

Thanks everyone for the nice replys. I definitely have the fever now. Today I went back to the same area where I found the mercury dimes.
Hunted for about an hour. Clad, clad.......and more clad coins. Then decided to head back to the car. It was almost time for the Blackhawks
Canucks game. On the way I kept swinging the the E Trac. Got a nice signal and decided this would be my last dig for the day.
It's kind of like fishing. Last cast of the day. So I dug. As soon as I folded over the plug I saw bright silver. Didn't even need to use the probe.
There was a silver quarter. Washed all of the mud off of it carefully. 1950 Silver quarter. Wow.
Attached is a pic of it.
Dan.

Thanks for the story. Those are nice finds. I love to see MD in the dirt. I haven't been to the local park yet this year, but all you guys with these finds from "hunted out" parks is making want to get there soon.
