Hi, all:
Took my new F-5 to the old school I've been hunting in my town. Hunting what used to be the high shcool football field in the 50's and 60's. The field is still used for youth soccor, and lots of teens play football on it. Got a solid siganl reading 25 to 27 on the meter. Depth reading was four inches. I thought it might be an older nickle, even though the reading was a little low for nickles. Dug a plug and in the hole at about four inches was the glint of gold. Pulled out a beautiful 14K gold wedding band. AND it was my ring size. Sweet. I was hunting with 90 Gain, -2 threshold, with Iron, Foil and Tabs notched out. Twenty feet further I got another solid 26 reading and dug a wad of foil, so you never know. Somehow, the reading on the ring sounded "good". After a lot of detecting, you can get a sense when a marginal signal sounds better and you dig it. I later dug a small silver cross on a thin silver chain. It read at 30 and three inches deep. Turned out to be in the grass roots, due to the size. The "peace" guitar was part of some kind of pin. It's fun to dig a gold ring from an area that's been hunted hard. This is my third time to hunt this area, so I missed it twice myself with other detectors. Liking the F-5.
Thanks for looking and keep on diggin'
