Got to take my recently acquired Cortes out last week end for a short hunt. A friend and I hunted a small yard that he had gotten permission to hunt. Not much was found except a few clad coins and one wheatie and the always present junk. From what I had read about the Cortes I was expecting
it to be good for coins in the 6 inch range but not alot deeper than that. The Cortes proved me wrong and was hitting much deeper targets with good solid signals. The meter was jumping around but I think maybe the sensitivity might have been too high for the amount of trash in the yard.
Once I get accustomed to the Cortes I think it is going to be an excellent detector. One thing for sure, if you have poor eyesight the meter on the Cortes is going to very hard to see.
I did some airtesting on a few coins to see where they read on the meter of the Cortes.....the meter was very accurate and the depth meter was right on. The Cortes was getting a solid hit on a quarter at 10 inches in the airtests and about 8 inches on a dime....very happy with the depth of the Cortes.
Out of curiosity I plugged my Depthmaster Plus into the Cortes and repeated some airtests. A quarter was hitting very solid at almost 12 inches and the dime was hitting solid at about 9 or so inches. These were nice strong signals not weak faint signals. Every detector I have tried the Depthmaster Plus
on has had a huge improvement in signal quality at the fringe of detection range, no wimpy weak signals, but very strong clear signals. So far I tried the Depthmaster Plus on my Silver
