First short hunt with my old 1270

Well-known member
I only had about an hour or so before it started raining. I and others have pounded this area for the last 2 years for the silver coins with several detectors. I have hunted this area several times this year myself with other detectors and it has pretty much stopped producing any coins.

So I had the 1270 rigged with the 8" coil and the first few minutes seemed to confirm that the area was pretty clean. Then I got a signal and up came a wheat penny, then I got a clad quarter, just a little later I got several more coins in about a 3 foot area. All the coins were in the ground several inches and were not new drops.

To bad it started raining I think I was just a few coins away from a silver. Can't wait to hit it again, I have high hopes for a couple of nice silver coins.

Way to go Ron................

I forgot to give my settings, which nicknamed silver blasting. I was running in normal disc set at max, sensitivity about 9 and I was running the 8" coil, next time out I should have my new to me 5x10 elliptical.

I'm getting the idea that either,
their isn't a lot of 1270 users here! or because of the time of year they're just not spending a lot of time on the forum.

I am thinking the old machines are fading away and the new comers don't know or care much about the old beep and dig machines. They have been brain washed into thinking an ID meter machines is the only way to go.

We will just have to do our thing and figure out our problems with the few of us old timers that are left.

:shrug:iam thinking you should sell it back to me dam what was i thinking

i bought a outlaw new so i keep it and sold the 1270 i think its the best coin md i have had if you sell it call me first deal richard dangit

razerback,

If you are serious send me a PM and in the subject line put something like contact me first for the 1270. That way I can keep your PM and if something makes me change my mind to sale it I will for sure would contact you before listing it.

In the mean time you may want to watch for one to come or I think you may be able to post that you are looking for one, you may want to check the rules. You may have seen were I posted looking for a 5" and 5x10" coil and Gary contacted me and we worked up a deal on both of them. Sometimes the timing is just right for both parties.

I know the 1270 is a pretty good detector, and will do more than what I have planned for it, but my main interest is silver. Now for jewelry I will be using the Tesoro Tejon. I am thinking your Outlaw will for sure be a good jewelry machine and if you got the package with several coils you may have a little something for everything.

But for right now I think I will hold on to the 1270.

You may have seen that I sold my F75Ltd so that I could buy the 1270 and the extra coils that I have coming. The wife was not happy.

Good to hear from you,

Yea Ron I went screen crazy and thought it would be better no such luck I am now swinging a Tejon beep and dig machine and am liking it a lot the 1270 you have is a deep machine I just wish you could ground balance it discriminate mode like a Tejon!

I am 100% beep and dig and right now I am thinking I will be staying that way. (1270 and Tejon)

I made it back for a couple more hours of hunting the same area that I got rained out the other day. This time I was rigged with the 5x10" coil, still didn't get any silver but I did get 6 more pennies and again these were not new drops. I know nobody is interested in 6 pennies, now I am starting to wonder about the depth of the 5x10 compared to the 8". On my first go around with the 1270 and 4 coils I did test the 8" to the 5x10 in an air test and they were within 1/2" and the 8" had the lead. I think I will try and rig up something that I can get some good numbers this next go around and I will only be testing a dime. While I am at it I will also test the 5" and 10.5" and I will post my results.

Last time I tested I used a coin taped to a paint stick and then had a yard stick under the coil and eye balled the swing. This time I will have the detector set in a couple of V blocks and I will be setting up a flat board in front of the coil and the swing stick will be held against the flat board. This should take a lot of the guess work out of the results, I am thinking I can get down to 1/8 or 1/4".

Ron could you imagine having a 11" DD coil on the 1270 like on a F-75 that would be a killer set up in iron and trash!!

Morgan,

That would sure be a dream machine, to bad they gave up on their last beep and dig other than their gold machines. It would have been nice if they would have took the 1266x and put the guts of a 1270 in that package and then build from that. My 1265x and 1266x were the best feeling machines I ever picked up. I would say the F75 as for feel was right in there with the 65 and 66.

Ron

Yeah I wish they would bring back the 1266x frame batteries under arm rest with the 1270 features with DD coil options in 5",11" bi-axial, 5x10" coil sizes. It's funny I have tried a boat load of detectors and always come back to Fisher beep and dig machines or Tesoro beep and dig machines, I just seem to find more goodies with them I guess because I ain't paying attention to numbers on a screen.

Hey MarkCZ if you ever decide to get rid of that old 1266x you got let me know I love them detectors I hunted with one for years and got rid of it and have regretted it ever since!! Their not the best coin machine but on Civil War relics they are awesome!!

your right there, The 1265x was like a smooth sleek perfect chick that could do everthing, and give you what you always wanted and never ask for anything, AHHH I think I'm in love again!!!! Hm maybe I'm getting carried away a little, you think Ron???

Kind of sounds like a few old old old hormanes kicked in. My 1265x was my nickel machine, I would put the little 3 3/4" on and hit the curbs. She was nice, now look what you done, I am talking just like you.

Ron,

Do you do the trick with the 1270 to figure out the coin/object depth by raising the coil off the ground? That's my favorite. I never understood why folks needed a screen to tell them the depth.

:)
